Lenovo Mods - How about a FAQ?

2012-01-22, 17:17 PM
Can someone in Lenovo compile the answers here into a FAQ? It would add a lot of value for K1 users and reduce your support overhead...

Builds:
01/18/2012 - K1_A301_14_14_120109_US
01//2012 - K1_A301_13_13_111209_US
12/2011 - K1_A301_12_12_111109_US

The moderators are not Lenovo employees.

As this is a user-to-user discussion forum, there's nothing stopping the community from compiling a FAQ themselves. Are you willing to start one and coordinate adding info to it as others write the entries?  If so, we can make it a sticky.

Actually, the proper place for the FAQs is in FAQ area of the support site: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/faqs/default.page?

It's possible to select the A1_07 product in that area, but Lenovo hasn't bothered to provide any content for it.

That isn't what the OP was requesting, though.

I know what the OP was suggesting and it wouldn't be necessary if Lenovo properly documented their product in accordance with their own guidelines.

Let's just stay on-topic, please, with what the OP requested.

Thanks JaneL., I didn't realize the mods were not from Lenovo. It's a very interesting arrangement. Do you know if there are Lenovo employee counterparts?

Unfortunately, I don't have the time or energy bandwidth to create and maintain a FAQ, though I would be happy to contribute to it.

On a side note, sinanju, has a point. Personally, I like to see Lenovo step up in this area and put some 'skin in the game'. They have 20k+ employees, you would think they can devote one or two people to improving it's usability.  The sad thing is it's not a bad product at a decent pricepoint. At this point of the early tablet market, especially with Android, there will be multiple vendors offering devices w/ the same capabilities at similar prices. What will differentiate them is the documentation, and on-line and off-line support.

@gdeight,

Good suggestion, you can actually go to the KB section to find for the KBs for all K1 or A1 related topics.

The link below are all the KBs which the mods, gurus and Lenovo staff have contributed based on the topics which have been discussed here on the forum.

http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Slate-Tablets-Knowledge/tkb-p/Idea_Slate%40tkb

If you come across any topic which has not been written yet, feel free to contribute and a Lenovo staff will approve the KB.

Hope this helps. =)

I have a Y530 ... Feel free to highlight any post which you have posted on the forum to me if no one have chimed in.

@ExJamJus

I spent a bit of time authoring a how-to for transcoding video for the A1.  Is it KB-worthy? http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Slate-Tablets/A1-How-To-Video/td-p/656127

Thanks for the pointer in that direction. I'd forgotten about the KB. And your link reminded me why. It is practically useless. The forum has answers, the KB has almost nothing.

Where is the official "word", "blog", "product update", "support", etc., page that is maintained by Lenovo staff that has useful information about the A1 and or K1?

A Firmware version was released last week for the all A1's except for the United States. We'd have never known if not for the USERS helping USERS forum. Shouldn't that be sort of "front and center" out there somewhere on an official Lenovo Support/Device page or site?

Where is the timeline for a US firmware update? Will there be one to address all of the many things that we've been discussing in this forum and calling Lenovo about? There isn't even one in beta according to Lenovo's download site.

I could go on. But as the moderators are always so quick to point out. This is not a Lenovo staffed support forum. So they (Lenovo) don't see it, don't read it, and consequently don't respond to it. It is a waste of electrons typing something and expecting Lenovo to officially act upon something from the forum.

Like many, I was thrilled when I saw the Lenovo brand name on an inexpensive tablet. I figured that an organization of that size would have 21st Century support. Sadly they don't. They still rely on something invented in the 19th Century - the telephone.
