Lenovo P11 faulty audio

2021-02-18, 22:15 PM

I recently bought a Lenovo Tab TB-J606F. When connecting my Bluetooth headphones I discovered that the sound was extremely overly compressed, on the verge of distorting. So much so that it rendered the tablet completely unusable with any form of media involving sound, no matter what source. When watching a film the sound was so compressed that much quieter ambient sounds often overpowered the dialogue, and when listening to music it was so mushy and smothered it was simply impossible to listen to.

I tried it with two different pairs of bluetooth headphones, a bluetooth speaker and a bluetooth reciever, all of which work fine paired with any of the other android, Windows or iOS units in the house, all with the same result.

I tried turning off the Dolby Atmos app but the issue persisted.

I tried resetting the tablet, but the faulty audio still remained the same.

Lastly I connected an external audio interface, through which the sound was fine.

I contacted the Lenovo support who reckoned I had gotten a faulty unit so I was sent a replacement.

It arrived today and to my great disappointment has the exact same problem.

Is anyone else out there experiencing this? Does anyone know of any solution?

Is there a way to disable some audio output processing gone terribly wrong, perhaps?

Or should I just return it to cut my losses?

Any and all answers are very much appreciated.

Cheers

S

I don’t own a Lenovo Tab P11 (TB-J606F) but I do recall reading this thread (sounds like a very similar issue to yours). >

Not that it helps, but at least you know you aren’t alone.

Cheers, MattyS

So then there's more people that have ecountered this problem.

A little update:

Just did some more troubleshooting with Lenovo support on the line

Did a static discharge (turning the thing off and then pressing the power button for 40 seconds) with no result.

Turned off the wifi, but the bluetooth sound still stayed the same.

Checked for system updates, which there weren't any.

Tested the sound through the internal speakers more thoroughly, and there the sound seems to be working ok.

Tested casting music videos, and there the sound was fine.

Tried with a different external audio interface and that worked fine too.

I guess this narrows it down to a bluetooth problem.

There has also been some trouble with bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

When using bluetooth 4.0 I am unable to reconnect them after turning the bluetooth off and on again.

I have to unpair and then pair them again to make them work, even if the tablet just goes into sleep mode.

When using bluetooth 3.0 it works fine.

So something's definitely up with the bluetooth.

Does anyone out there know if there is a way to access switching between bluetooth classic and BLE, or any bluetooth settings apart from pairing?

Cheers

S

Hi, Developer options has some Bluetooth codec settings, not sure if they include the one you want. I used Bluetooth scanner app recently to check which codec and bitrate was being used, might be of help here. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pzolee.bluetoothscanner Nigel

Hi there buddy,

I Just had this same problem with p11 tablet, I found the problem is not compression but too much audio gain, this can be resolved disabling absolute Bluetooth volume under android's developer settings. After disabling restart the tablet.  You may now be able to control your headset and tablet volume separately, put the headset volume to max and tablets under 50%

Hope works for you now

Thanks GerJimenez for the solution! I bought a P11 this week and had similar problems with audio through Bluetooth speakers etc. After disabling the Absolute Bluetooth Volume and restarting the tablet the problem was solved. 😊

Ok, so another really exemplary bad customer service which has been ignoring customer feedback for several months. And even as here in this case, since the customers have found a solution to the problem themselves, and the customer service / manufacturer could completely eliminate the problem with a system update: nothing is done out of laziness and comfort.

I'm having the same problem. Super compressed, distorted & echoey, sounds like too much gain. When I opened absolute volume it was off. Turning it on helped the sound quality if I keep the volume below half but the output is very limited . Any fixes for this to make it behave like every other bluetooth device? If not it's going back.
