Lenovo Smart Assistant / System Update down for A10-70/A7600-F? Alternate method to install 4.4?

2014-10-18, 8:23 AM

I sent a longer version to the Lenovo Smart Assistant support email alias, so if I get an answer there before here, I'll post what the solution was.

I just purchased 2 Lenovo A10-70 (aka A7600-F) tablets. One for my wife and I, the other for my grandparents.

* They still have Android version 4.2 on them. I know there is an update out for Android 4.4.2. However the tablet does not see the update server when doing a check for updates.

* I've also tried to use Lenovo Smart Assistant on my PC (v1.03). It gives me an error saying "Please check that you are connected to the network".

Given that I am writing this forum post on the same PC, I'm quite sure I am connected to the internet.  :) The tablet can browse as well.

My guess is that the update server that hosts this upgrade is offline or not responding to me.

My internet connection is direct through Comcast and I don't have any firewalls blocking me from the outside.

1) Is there another way to download and install the update?

2) Are there any good (ie, like Cyanogenmod or AOKP) well supported alternative ROMs out there? I don't plan to keep updating the tablet, I'd just like to get some of the Android 4.4 features that we wanted to give them the easiest package for using Chromecast and other media.

I am well versed with Android and the internet. I've had multiple devices that I have done rooting as well as alternative ROMs. So I'd be ok with doing that (if I knew of any that support this tablet). I'd prefer to keep the one I'm shipping to grandparents (with parents as support) on a stock ROM though.

Thanks!

Yes indeed, the dead server seems to be up now. I have managed to update my yoga 10 hd+ to kitkat. After the update, the tablet didnt restart, it sort of went in stand by mode but i pushed the power button for a good 10 secs. and it started. After that its working well. So far so good.

I am haviing a similar problem too. I bought a Lenovo Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ model number B8080-H which comes on jelly bean 4.3 out of the box. When i try to use the softwar update option from the tablet it says ' Unknown error, it's possible that the server is unavailable'. When i tried updating the tablet using Smart Assistant, it says, 'Check if the system is connected to the network". :S.

This is really annoying. I am trying to update kitkat on this tablet since morning and no luck. Please help if anyone has some ideas.

So Lenovo Smart Assistant is working again, but reports I have the most recent version.

The tablet still gives an error when checking "System Update".

Is there another method for installing 4.4? I'm hoping 4.4 is actually still available since that was my primary reason for buying this tablet after reading reviews all claiming it auto updated to 4.4 starting this summer.

My A8-50 is just finishing the upgrade install after OTA download. Yesterday the update would not work.

Now it is showing a new update of 137MB and is in process.

Thanks, same here on my A10-70, looks like they found the dead server and put it back online.

same here. i just finished the 4.4.2 update.

Yesterday i called the support from Lenovo in germany. they said there is no kitkat rollout for my device... jesus, i hate it when corporations do not brief their support staff right.

Well, i know have the same wifi issues others reportes on the forum. but on the otherside my youtube issues are gone. when wifi is working right, now i have no more choppy video playback.

now i need to fugure out what sort of wireless standard is causing no problems so the tablet runs smoothly with wifi till Lenovo also fixes this issue.
