Lenovo TB-X505F does not connect to WiFi

2021-01-13, 12:01 PM

First of all, I have read a related thread which’s solution does not work for my problem.

We recently updated to Android 10 and since then, it cannot connect to any WiFi.

We set the WiFi settings to low security (WPA+WPA2), we reset the cache, deleted settings, tried to connect to different routers and mobile hotspots.

It always says "could not store network" followed by "could not establish network connection".
(Phrases might differ slightly because I translated the German error messages.)

Usually I would do a factory reset, but the device is "managed" via family link.
Since Family Link only works from my phone to my son’s tablet with network, it does not work.

The reset in the device settings is grayed out.

The software provided by Lenovo in the support section is Windows only, we run on Mac.

A hard install of Android via USB would require settings enable which the tablet does not have.
And since if is the "WiFi only" device, a SIM card won’t help either.

I am completely lost with a device that "works" but cannot be reset.

@Adriel_lenovo, I found the solution which you might want to add to your knowledge base.

I used an old Apple USB-to-Ethernet adapter combined with a micro-USB-to-USB adapter.
Enable Ethernet in internet settings and done: the factory reset now works.

Probably other micro-USB-to-Ethernet adapters work as well.

(plus WiFi worked after the factory reset as well)

Welcome to the Community Forums @dalori!

Glad to have you here!

You may try to check this previous post from other users to see the steps that they've performed for this to be sorted out.

Try to check as well if the date/time settings on your device are set correctly.

Also, the Rescue and Smart Assistant tool can be only downloaded as of the moment by using a Windows OS device (laptop/computer).

With this, it is really advisable to look for a Windows laptop/computer so that you can initiate the factory reset afterwards.

Make sure to back up the files that you have first on the device so that you can restore the files afterwards.

Thanks,

@Adriel_lenovo thanks for the information.

We got a Windows notebook but the Lenovo Rescue and Smart Assistant tool fails.

We downloaded the latest version.

We choose the right device and I cleared more than 50% of the tablet’s memory (>16 GB available).

The progress starts, but after 2 minutes the button turns red and failed.

We tried it with different cables, even though this does not make sense.

We re-started the computer, tried flashing multiple times.

What else can we do?

Thanks for the update @dalori!

Apologies for the delayed response as well!

Please check if there's an available update for the Rescue and Smart Assistant tool app.

Go to Settings and you'll and select Software Update.

Also, try changing the modem/router settings into wpa+wpa2psk and see if it will also work.

Thanks,

Thanks for the reply.

I checked the download page of the Rescue and Smart Assistent tool and it still says "v5.4.0.18, released 28 Dec 2020".

That is the version I used. See lower right of my screenshot.

Setting the router to a lower security like "wpa+wpa2psk" was done initially already and did not work. (see first post ;-))

It looks like there is no alternative solution anymore.
How can I send in my device which still has warranty?

Thanks for the response @dalori!

You may check this link to see the list of local service provider(s) near your area in order for them to inspect the machine itself since the steps that were performed on this post still didn't get the job done.

The list only comes up with two items which are several hours ride, crossing two state borders.
So there is not ship-in possibility?
