Re: Lenovo just put an OTA update to Honeycomb 3.2 for the K-1

After the update Trial X and Lane Change apps no longer work. Must be something with the accelerometer, which would explain Google Sky too.

Does anyone from Lenovo care to comment on these issues?

The accelerometer and GPS issues should be fixed with the latest update, namely K1_A301_12_12_111109_US (I don't know about other locales.)

At least, Google Sky works for me.

ETA:  I downloaded a couple of compass apps to see how that went.  One app gave fairly accurate results (Smart Compass by Smart Tools) while the other one was about 90deg off (compass, by Catch.com).  Google Sky must also access the compass hardware, and it lined up pretty well with the north star and various constellations, so I guess it's accurate too.

I had the same problem.  Finally I gave up and downloaded it from the Lenovo site and manually upgraded it.  That took a little trial and error, but when it finally got going, all went well.  All apps and data were preserved.

FWIW I was upgrading from the out-of-the-box build K1_A301_03_03_110829_US to K1_A301_12_12_111109_US.

Are there a set of instructions (lenovo, web, etc.) that outlines how to manual upgrade your k1?  I'm doing OTAs and it's taking forever to update from the out of the box version.  Are the updates cumulative?  Meaning if I start at the out of the box version and the new update is 7 updates from the box, if I update to the newest will I miss something in between?

I have the same problem with sky maps. Also would not recommend Lenovo to any gamer (like me). There is no support for many many many games gta3 modern combat 2 nova2 just to name some of the poplar ones. I got my cuz a Samsung galaxy my 7 yr old cuz a motorola zoom and uncle a Asus and they all love them. My next one after selling Lenovo will be Asus transformer prime terga 3. Can play all the games I love with quad core speed.

How did you manually install the update? My K1 will download the update OTA and prompt me to install, but when it reboots the screen flashes a few time and never installs the update. I'm still on 3.1 and would like to upgrade. Can you help?

I think there's a little magic involved.  Assuming you have the update file (update.zip, and optionally update.xml) in your Download directory, you can power down the K1, and then power up again into restore mode by holding the volume up button while pressing and holding the power button.  Keep holding until you see a small text message about restore mode, or an android logo with moving gears.  After that, just wait. If all goes well, the K1 will eventually reboot several times and finally come up to the lock screen.  That's it.

On the other hand, if it boots to normal mode instead of restore mode, just power down and try again.  Sometimes it takes a few attempts in order for it to get started.
