Need OS help

2011-10-05, 16:14 PM
I am a very early owner of a US K1. I am trying to use the Tablet as a notebook replacement. I am an Android mobile power user and a Linux guy. I have the need to modify a Tablet system file, "hosts", to allow in- house access to a Word Press blog site that is on my Linux Server. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure to do that you will need ROOT. The device has not been Rooted yet. So it's not really possible, but then again I could be proved wrong.

I can copy the hosts file using Astro but lack of permission prevents me from copying the modified file back. What a pain. Why an open source OS is locked is still a mystery to me.

We'll technically Android is not really open source as its owned by Google.

The brand selling the Device is able to lock the device. This prevents users from removing what they intended to stay on the device. This make any since?

That's why Rooting is disliked by venders and voids the warranty.

Rooting unlocks the device making you able to change and customize anything making it super easy for yourself to brick your system. Which is what there not going to cover.

No luck trying adb "push" on a mod of the hosts file. Error message is "...read only file system. Anyone know how to change only this file's permissions to-r-w- without root?
