P10 How to disable weather

2019-02-05, 1:07 AM

How can I remove or disable the Lenovo weather app on the Smart Tab P10?  If you can't disable, can the notifications be disabled?

Me too. Why do mnafactures insist on forcing pointless apps on their customers without the ability to disable them?

Don't have your model, so will defer to experience.  In Tab4 8 it's listed as a "system" app and can be disabled.  The Settings / Apps & Notifications section was rejigged in Android 8.1, so Android versions will differ.  But it's necessary to see "all" apps, including "system" apps to find "Lenovo Weather".

My model has two (count 'em) Lenovo Weathers - I suppose Android 8.1 Oreo installed a more recent version alongside the Nougat - both verson 2.x and 3.x are disabled in the ordinary way, opening in App Info and toggling Disable.  They are reduced to about 2MB but can be enabled again if wanted.  I have also disabled the "Lenovo Tab4 8" app and removed just about everything else that was preinstalled.  No harm done.  Hope this is useful for your model.

Thanks for your answer, your solution works at least temporarily. After a restart the weather app display reappears. Worst thing is the displayed values aren't even accurate ?

I suppose only rooting the tablet would solve the problem but I'm not sure if warranty will be voided by doing so.

One more thing to check:  opening the app see that all Permissions and Modify System Settings are toggled off.

I think rooting does void the warranty.  If it can't be disabled, I'd try an app like Greenify that can "hibernate" the Weather app, removing the notifications, etc. unless / until you manually launch it.  I use Greenify on all my devices to minimize resource waste by always-on apps, and save battery.

There is a way to disable any app without rooting, but you have to enable developer options and ADB and do it with the device hooked up to a computer.

Here's a tutorial: https://www.xda-developers.com/uninstall-carrier-oem-bloatware-without-root-access/

Unfortunately it was purchased specifically to use with Microsoft's InTune company portal, which is so badly designed that anything out of their strict conditions in the way it's configured stops it from working as it says the device is compromised! I have various tablets with much higherh spec's but they won't work with InTune as it thinks they are compromised even when they are stock unrooted Android.

I successfully disabled the weather app. The notification is gone. You need to reset the device to factory settings. Then the first thing you do is touching on the notifications for about 2 seconds. Then touch on notification settings and disable notifications for this app. Then you can disable the app in the settings and there is no notification anymore. The problem is if you start the weather app only one time the disable setting get's locked and you can't disable it anymore.
