Problem with the SD card

Re: Lenovo Tab M11 tablet, 27,9 cm (11 tommer), MediaTek Helio G88, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB, kan udvides til 1 TB,

My tablet has been used for just two months - and now an "error message" comes up. "Problem with the SD card.". I press the message and is then asked how I want to use my SD card - there is only one option: As an external memory. Next suggestion - to FORMAT the SD card, which already has app 50 gb of Data, that I definitely do not want to erase.

When I look at the files, it is clear, that the tablet does not open/ read the SD card.

I have tried taking the bloody card out and putting it back in. No dice. How do I get the wrethched tablet to read the SD card. (Card is a sandisk 1 tb).

Re:Problem with the SD card

Hi astrup,

Thanks for posting here at the Lenovo Community!

I'm sorry to read about the issue you're experiencing with your SD card on your Lenovo Tab M11. May I ask, did you format the SD card on the tablet before as an external storage?

Let's try to resolve this step-by-step:

  1. Check the SD Card on Another Device:

    • First, try inserting the SD card into another device, such as a computer or another tablet, to see if it can be read. This will help determine if the issue is with the SD card itself or the tablet.
  2. Backup Your Data:

    • If the SD card is readable on another device, back up your data immediately to avoid any potential data loss.
  3. Reinsert the SD Card:

    • Ensure the SD card is properly inserted into the tablet. Sometimes, a loose connection can cause read errors. Make sure it clicks into place securely. Also, don't forget to turn off the tablet first before you insert or remove the card.
  4. Check for Software Updates:

    • Ensure your Lenovo Tab M11 is running the latest software. Go to Settings > System > System Update and check for any available updates.
    •
  5. Check SD Card Format:

    • Ensure the SD card is formatted in a compatible file system which is exFAT. If the card is not readable on another device, you may need to reformat it, but this will erase all data on the card.

I hope this steps help in resolving the issue. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
Adriel_Lenovo

Thanks for getting back to us,

In this case, please go ahead and perform a factory reset to the tablet via the Recovery Mode by following the steps in this video guide. Make sure to back up all of your important files first before you reset it to prevent permanent data loss.

Once done, complete the initial setup, then test the SD card again.

Let us know how it goes this time.

Thank you for your patience and for providing additional details. I understand how frustrating this situation can be. Let's try to address your concern about backing up the Pressreader app without using the SD card.

Steps to Backup Your Pressreader App Data:

  1. Use Cloud Storage:

    • If your Pressreader app supports cloud backup, you can use this feature to save your data. Check the app settings for any cloud backup options.
  2. Connect to a Computer:

    • Connect your Lenovo Tab M11 to a computer using a USB cable.
    • Once connected, you should be able to access the internal storage of your tablet.
    • Look for the Pressreader app folder and manually copy the data to your computer.
  3. Use a Backup App:

    • There are several third-party apps available on the Google Play Store that can help you back up your app data to the cloud or your computer.

Additional Steps to Resolve SD Card Issue:

  1. Check for Physical Damage:

    • Inspect the SD card slot for any physical damage or debris that might be preventing a proper connection.
  2. Try a Different SD Card:

    • Since you mentioned trying a 512 GB card, ensure it is formatted correctly (exFAT) and try again. If possible, test with a smaller capacity card (e.g., 32 GB) to see if the issue persists.
  3. Factory Reset:

    • As a last resort, performing a factory reset might help resolve any software-related issues. Ensure all important data is backed up before proceeding. Follow the video guide for instructions.

I hope this helps! Please let us know if you need further assistance.

Thanks,
Adriel_Lenovo

Re:Problem with the SD card

I have tried to connect the tablets to
1) a brand new Windows pc - 11

2) A linux with Ubuntu 24 Lts - and a waydroid installed.

In neither case does the computer even recognize the content on the tablets. The tablet is "empty".

So what TF do I do?

Hi astrup,

Thank you for your patience and for providing additional details. I understand how frustrating this situation can be. Let's try to address your concern step-by-step.

Steps to Resolve the Issue:

  1. Check USB Connection Mode:

    • When you connect your Lenovo Tab M11 to your computer, ensure that the USB connection mode is set to "File Transfer" (MTP). You can do this by swiping down the notification bar on your tablet and selecting the appropriate USB option.
  2. Install Necessary Drivers:

    • For Windows 11, ensure that you have the necessary drivers installed.
  3. Use a Different USB Cable/Port:

    • Sometimes, the issue can be with the USB cable or port. Try using a different USB cable and port on your computer to see if the tablet is recognized.
  4. Check for Physical Damage:

    • Inspect the SD card slot and the USB port for any physical damage or debris that might be preventing a proper connection.
  5. Factory Reset (Last Resort):

    • If the above steps do not resolve the issue, performing a factory reset might help. Ensure all important data is backed up before proceeding. Follow the video guide for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

In this case, it would be beneficial to have it checked either by our technical support, or by a professional technician at any service centers in your area.

Please use the contact details I have provided in my previous response to get in touch with them. I'm sure that they can inspect the tablet further and see if it already require service due to a hardware defect.
