fsttyms1, the K1 never charges via the USB cable: whether it is plugged into a PC or an AC-USB adapter. You need to use the dedicated charging cable (AC plug on one end, K1 proprietary plug on the other).

@hola987

I think I'm stealing this from Cybie's instructions, but to flash the keyboard fix (which fixed my home button), and any other fixes/updates:

1) Put "update.zip" on the external SD card. You'll have to rename the keyboard fix zip file to "update.zip" if you haven't already.

2) Open PlayStore and download and install "aShell" app.

3) Run aShell.

4) Select the checkbox at the upper left beside "Root."

5) Type "k1recovery" into text box without quotes.

6) Press "Run command" button.

7) Tablet will reboot into recovery mode. At this time use the volume button to move up and down through the menu.

8) Select the "install update from SD card" option.

9) Navigate through the SD card to the "update.zip" file.

10) Push the Home button to install.

11) After the screen tells you that the installation has been successful, push the power button to back out to the main menu screen and select the "reboot tablet" option. Push the Home button.

is there anyway to do it without an external sdcard. I don't think I have a spare one right now to use nor do I know where that tool is to open the sd port.

@hola. You should be able to open the sd slot with a paper clip or long earing. Or you can try connecting the k1 to your pc and see if your pc detects your sd and move it that way

I can transfer it using the pc to the internal storage no problem. I also changed it to update.zip. I just get an error saying it can't mount /sdcard when in cwm recovery which i dont know if it is refering to the internal or external sdcard. if it is the external it makes sense since i dont have one in right now but if it is the internal it doesnt make sense to me. also i think if it was refering to the external it would be called sdcard2, not postive on that though

seeing SD cards in windows explorer on win xp

2012-08-08, 5:24 AM

I'm on ICS AOSP 4.03 and my desktop is WINXP. Are people with the same configuration able to see K1 as a MTP device in Windows explorer when using USB data cable? No matter what I do, I cannot see my K1 internal and external SD cards in windows explorer XP (so far I have installed Android SDK, ADB drivers from lenoco, APX drivers, and Le Tools from Lenovo).

I also have an SGs2 and that appears fine via USB as storage devices (not MTP) on my win xp desktop

The best I have been able to do is use Le Tools to transfer files via USB - but its painfully slow process as I have over 25gb of files to copy back onto the K1

Changed back to HC. Too many problems at this point for ICS

I wish to thank all that made ICS happen. I will follow this group for now.

@hola

Regarding the sdcard2 issue. Here is the fix. (This can be done with adb if you prefer that method)

1. Using a root file explorer navigate to /system/etc/permissions

2. Make sure the /system is mounted as r/w (Depends on the file explorer your using)

3. Open platform.xml in a text editor

4. Find the section for "android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" and change it to look like this:

Before: <permission name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" >
<group gid="sdcard_rw" /> </permission>

After: <permission name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" >
<group gid="sdcard_rw" />
<group gid="media_rw" /> </permission>

5. Save the file and reboot.
