Re: [ROM][JB][AOSP] Lenovo Ideapad K1

2012-10-08, 3:16 AM

Yes XDA confused me a lot. So the event shoul dbe like this:
1) Download JB AOSP nvflash & Install.
2) Download CM10 ROM & Gapps. I would not be able to use option 2 here because don't have a card reader. Direct download on K1, will go to SD card on itself?

I'll do these 2 first & then revert back here, lest it becomes confusing to me!

Regarding do I really want to do this on K1? Well because I've already done stuff from XDA, now I don't know what my tab is on! Just that Home button is not working & I don't have the Apps I used to have whilst on Honeycomb. What other option do I have if I don't go ahead with this procedure to save my Tab & enjoy its capabilities? I don't mind being on a OS that's not supported by Lenovo. Otherwise also I guess by following XDA Ive already voided warranty.

Thanks a ton again.

No other sources that I know of at this time.  There were a couple of other sites set up back in August/September, but it appears they have been taken down, or the file removed.  :smileyfrustrated:

By the way, one of the reasons behind storing the zip files for the ROM update and Gapps on the external SD card (a microSD card placed in the K1's card reader slot) is so that they don't get erased when you wipe data on the tablet.  A factory reset/wipe does not affect data on an external SD card, but it can affect files in the internal memory.  I don't know for sure if there is a "safe" place you can put them in the internal memory, that won't get wiped when you do step 3.

Oh. Still all downloads stuck at some level or the other.

Wish I show you the present state of my tab to you for correct answers. I'll try to put into words.

When I power it on, a robot appears on the screen which emits circles of light around it & then the tab enters a Green screen. When I unlock & go to the Apps, ~19 different options appear which include:

Apollo

Browser

Calcu

Cal

Cam

Clock

Dev tools

Downloads

DSP

Mail

Gallery

Movie studio

People

ROM Manager

Search

Settings

Super User

Terminal Emulater

Voice dialer.

These are all slated in correct manner. A black screen underneath all these is there.

Next page takes to Widgets.

On about tab:

Android - 4.1.1

kernel- 2.6.39.4

CyanogenMod version- 10-20120808-unofficial-K1

Build no- cm_K1-userdebug 4.1.1 JROO3H eng.root.20120807.213548 test-keys.

I've tried to show a picture of what Im experiencing. Hope this helps in guiding "where to go from here".

Thanks.

@enov, yes, I understand, it looks like you are on the v2 version of the CM10 ROM, but you don't have the Gapps installed.  And that's the problem.  Unless we can get the Home button working for you in CWM recovery mode, so that you can select menu items (such as installing zip files), then I don't know a way to get you any further.  You need to be able to use the recovery mode menus to install Gapps, and to upgrade your CM10 to v5 (which includes several fixes, even though Bluetooth is not working).

I don't know why your Home button is not working.  The only reason I was suggesting trying the JB AOSP ROM first was that it seemed to install a CWM recovery image in which, at least for me, the Home button worked fine.  Again, if anyone out there knows of a way to select a menu item in the recovery menus without using the Home button, please speak up!

Great that I could make you see the situation. Now advise me stepwise what to do. Give me one step at a time or else confusion will again set in.

I can start with JB AOSP, as you advised earlier. Its not downloading from the given sourse but Im trying again & again.

New developement, I downloaded & gave that recovery app super user power & now the tab freezes on startup. Does not load beyond startup.

Im not going on JB for now becasue this seems to work.

Well, I finally broke down and upgraded to JB earlier this week. It seems to be working as predicted. Wi-fi signal not working although there is some activity in the symbol. Two little arrows blink on and off. I tried side loading Flash and it only seems to work with Firefox but is very unstable. It crashes on some items in Facebook that I go to. Some of the slot machine games flicker real bad. Some of the slot machine apps I had installed would not work at all. I did find some replacements that work. Speed seems pretty good and stable. I loaded the Nova launcher and it works great. Thanks for the work out there Khanning and the rest. Looking forward to updates for the minor bugs or maybe upgrade to CM10 when bluetooth gets fixed.

@jasprs, what version of Adobe Flash did you sideload?  I'm currently running 11.1.115.17 (for ICS) on my JB CM10 ROM, and it seems to run OK.  I know there is at least one newer version, also - 11.1.115.20.  If you are sideloading an old version that you backed up while on HC, it's a pretty sure thing that it won't work.  If you need the latest version for ICS (since there are no "official" versions for JB), you can find it here: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html   (scroll down until you find the Android versions).

I went and installed 11.1.115.20 and Firefox is the only browser that seems to see Flash installed. Dolphin wont let you turn it on in the settings. It works alittle better than what I had before. No flickering at least. It still crashes on some items. Maybe CM10 lets it work better than AOSP.
