Re: Removing Alexa from Tab4 8

Thanks Lev_Oh_No & I2k4 :)

It's gone now. After the update I had two apps listed in Settings/Apps. Near to the top of the list was Alexa so that was the one I uninstalled. However I was going through the App list a few minutes ago and noticed another one - Lenovo Alexa. So uninstalled that and bingo, the blue icon is no more ;)

I also do not use the stock launcher but prefer Nova - I find it nicer to use and it might be my imagination but it feels faster.

Overall there is very little rubbish on this tablet (apart from that mad Touchpal keyboard and dozens of language packs) and the more I use it, the more I like it. Its got to be one of the closest to stock Android you can get.

Thanks again guys

Never tried GBoard - will have a look. I use SwiftKey as the virtual keyboard but have just bought a Logitech physical tablet keyboard. This has a slot in the top to act as tablet stand and seems to work well.

Just looked at GBoard and at first it seemed a bit boring looking but like SwiftKey you need to find a theme you like. I also think it might use up a bit more space than SwiftKey but that might be my imagination. I am sure that Google's with rtheir mountain of cash would have done a good job on it.
These Android keyboards are so clever - the autocorrect works nearly perfectly now and the predictive text on SwiftKey seems to know what I am going to type even before I do ! I have no idea how it works but it is extraordinary

t's amazing how often GBoards prediction gets it right. It's like it knows what i'm going to say before is say it.

I am waiting for a rainy day when I will spend some time finding out how they do the predictive text. I think two things are going on, It knows which words frequently follow others in everyday speech eg a rainy + day but secondly they seems to be aware of what you have recently been looking at on the net.

Re: Removing Alexa from Tab4 8

Since the Android 8.1.0 update I've experienced the Alexa icon reinstalling itself in the navigation tray seemingly whenever it feels like it. This is happening despite Lenovo'a Alexa app being uninstalled. The only way I can seem too get rid of it (temporarily anyway) is to re-install/uninstall Lenovo Alexa and reboot.

Anyone else seeing this behavior and know of a more permanent fix?

Thanks

Update: I've now determined that whenever I take an update or install

any app from Google Play, the Alexa icon reappears in my navigation bar. The only way I can get rid of it is to re-install Lenovo Alexa and then uninstall it. Stays gone until I update or install something from Google Play and then I repeat the process all over again. Anyone else seeing this? Suggestions?

Yes, I have the same issue. I found that simply going in to Settings>Apps and re-enabling the "Lenovo TAB 4 8" app and then re-disabling it will remove the Alexa icon. But that's still annoying to do every time I apply any app updates.

Thanks for that trick.  Less cumbersome than installing/uninstalling. Hoping this gets fixed in the next firmware update.
