[Solved] Tab 3 8 (TB3-850F) 64gb SD error - Sandisk SD card missing, Reinsert this device.

2016-07-29, 13:01 PM

I have a SanDisk Ultra 64GB 48MB/s MicroSD SDSQUNB UHS-I TF Memory Card that my tablet often says is missing and needs to be reinserted. I take the card out and put it back and it works for a while and later the error appears again. Since putting the SD card it, the tablet sometimes turns itself off and will only turn back on by holding the power button for several seconds. I am trying to use the SD card as internal storage.

Is there a list of tested known working 64gb SD cards for this tablet?

I'd appreciate anyone using this exact model tablet happy to let me know if they're successfully using a 64gb SD card.

I'm also confused because I bought this tablet as it supports 64gb cards according to the technical specifications I saw on Lenovo Australia's website, however other pages state this tablet supports up to 32gb cards.

If the Sandisk card I have has been tested to work, do you have any suggestions on how to make it more reliable. I performed a factory reset on the tablet and it still had problems. From my tablet - Hardware version is LenovoPad TB3-850F, build number is TB3-850F_S100025_160608_ROW. It is running Android 6. I put the SD card in the Sandisk SD adaptor and tried it in my laptop and it works fine in my laptop (an old Acer laptop). Please let me know if you'd like any more information.

I have just re-formatted the card for use as portable storage (not ideal but I can live with it) and will test this over the next few days.

Edit: Solved. See my post below.

Re: Tab 3 8 (TB3-850F) 64gb SD error - Sandisk SD card missing, Reinsert this device.

I bit the bullet and purchased another brand 64gb microSD card, and it works! - In a nutshell - use a Transcend brand card instead.

For the record, my tablet is a Lenovo Tab 3 8", TB3-850F; sold by Lenovo Australia as the Tab 3 A8-50 with product number ZA170082AU. Android version 6.0, Kernel 3.18.9, Build number TB3-850F_S100025_160608_ROW. Software version TB3-850F_160412, Hardware version LenovoPad TB3-850F.

The SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I 64gb card, part number SDSQUNB-064G-GN3MA, is not compatible with the Lenovo TB3-850F tablet.
As 'internal storage' the card would work initially but after a short time, the error Sandisk SD card missing, Reinsert this device. would appear. The card would need to be removed and reinserted to work.
As 'portable storage' the card worked initially but again later would disappear, this time without error and require removal and reinsertion to work.

I tried reformatting the card on my laptop using a fat32 format tool, the tablet would reformat the card once installed anyway so this step was pointless.

The Transcend 'Premium' microSDXC UHS-I 64gb card, part number TS64GUSDU1, has been installed and configured as 'internal storage' and has been working fine and remained functional after several power cycles, reboots and sleep/use cycles.

Hopefully this information helps someone.

Hi.  Sorry to hear you are having issues with the SD card.  Have you cleaned the contacts on your card?  Using 91% alcohol or stronger use a lint free cloth.  Do not saturate it.  Only wet the cloth and wipe the contacts.  Allow it to dry before reinserting it.  This has worked in the past with other types of memory.  It may work with this.  Good Luck!
