Start-up K1

2013-01-11, 11:41 AM

My K1 will not start up. When I plug in, it shows 100%, then screen goes blank again. Holding power button for long periods or short periods does nothing. Does anyone know what could be wrong and the fix?

If you're not getting any lights after holding in the power button, that's pretty much a hardware problem, but not easy to tell whether it is the button itself, or the power control circuitry on the motherboard.  As far as I know, there is no "diagnosis adapter".  About the only way to fix it is to have it sent in for service.  Unfortunately, I'm guessing your K1 is no longer under warranty.

There used to be a K1 Hardware Maintenance Manual on the Lenovo web site, but I can't find it any more.  However, it looks like it's available here:

The charging behavior you describe is normal.  However, when you hold the power button in for about 3 seconds, the the white LEDs at the top and bottom of the Home button should both flash, and the tablet should start booting.  If you don't even get the LED flash, then it sounds like there is something wrong with your power button or the power control circuit, and that means it's time to call for service.  If you do get the flash but nothing else, that's also not a good sign, but it could be a ROM/software problem.  Have you done any ROM upgrades to your K1?

Thanks for the reply. I get nothing on trying to start-up. No lights at all. I suspected the power button but have no way of verifying it. Is this a component that I could replace myself? There seems to be no way to "open" the tablet. I also assume there is a diagnosis adapter that plugs into the charger port which is only available to a technician, correct? I see two threaded holes on either side of the port and have no idea what gets threaded in. Perhaps it's an optional device port too, serving more than one purpose? Thanks mclandytm.
