TAB 4 "Checking for updates..."

2017-08-08, 13:11 PM

When I click System Update in my Tab 4 (ZA2B0009US), the screen shows my current version and displays "Checking for updates..." with the graphic rotating at the bottom.

This is new behavior, as in the past it either did an update or said none was available.

I let it run all night and still: "Checking for updates..."

I talked to support, in chat, and she suggested it was my internet speed. When I told her that was over 50Mbps, she said she was hardware support and that this problem was software's problem. She instructed me to call software support and told me they would diagnose it without charge (I know this is what she said because I did a screen-shot of this, so I would have the phone number she gave me). So when I called in the morning, they said they were premium support, and would not do anything unless I paid them. Then they kicked me back to hardware support again. Hardware offered me contact information for Google since Google developed the Android OS. I am a little skeptical about the idea that Google is pushing those updates to my Lenovo tablet.

I called Premium Support again, and re-explained the issue. The representative transferred me to hardware support once more, and the gentleman there was very sympathetic. But he had no answers.

I wouldn't worry about this, except, if there are security issues, I want those updates.

My Questions:

1. If I give this time, will this resolve itself automatically?

2. Who actually is responsible for pushing these updates to Lenovo tablets? Google? Lenovo? Someone else?

3. Is there something (short of a factory reset) that I can do to correct the problem? I already wiped the cache in the OS?

4. Since I am inside my 30-day return window, should I just return this and get a different tablet?

Thanks.

TL/DR: Is it a problem that the Lenovo Tab 4 is perpetually "Checking for updates...."? Can it be resolved?

1.: Probably.
2.: Lenovo.
3.: Probably nothing you can do.
4.: Up to you.

I'm experiencing the same on my Tab4 8 Plus and since other Lenovo tablets seem to have the same issue as well at the moment I'm very confident that the update servers from Lenovo are malfunctioning or offline. This is most probably not related to an individual device because that wouldn't make sense to begin with and there are numerous or probably all devices (maybe in specific regions?) effected by it.

It's certainly not very professional of Lenovo to just let this issue idle for quite a while now but what can you do, they don't seem to think its a big deal. I'm quite sure they will resolve the situation eventually though.

Thanks.

Knowing others (or at least ANother) are having this issue does seem to indicate it's a server issue.

Re: TAB 4 "Checking for updates..."

Hello, yesterday I bought a
LENOVO Tab4 10 Plus TB-X704L ZA2R
and when I go to the "System Update" tab the screen shows my current version (TB-X704L_S000030_170522_ROW) and displays "Checking for updates..." with the graphic rotating at the bottom for less than a second, then displays "Please check for updates after connecting to a network".
It looks as if the tablet does not get an answer back but Wi-Fi connection works good.

How did you get the update that solved the issue for you?
Might this be related with the fact I am not able to sign in with me Lenovo ID?

As I said in the other thread, mine resolved itself. I'd wait a couple of weeks before worrying about it.

Re:TAB 4 "Checking for updates..."

I forgot the password for my tab. I performed a hard reset.

I rebooted. I got to the setup screen. I picked start fresh.

It went to Checking for Updates and is stuck there. Any solutions?
