Re:Don't upgrade Tab M10 FHD Plus to Android 10 - problems.

@Ala_Lenovo The simplest update we should hear from you is that a team of programmers have already prepared a new, clean and totally revamped, not fixed, but revamped completely from the ground up upgrade.

HI, I have the same problem with my M10 FHD plus. I think the last years, that Lenovo is a good Company, but the last three months, since the last Update ( i think there was a ALPHA version ), I am not amused about the problems. The speed of the device is much slower, the notifications comings not, and and and.

Excuse my bad english, sorry, but I hope LENOVO will fixed this problems soon.

An IMAGE with ANDROID 9, the last stable firmware from Lenovo is my favorite

Greetings from Austria 0verkiII

Re:Don't upgrade Tab M10 FHD Plus to Android 10 - problems.

I’ve managed to get notifications and widgets working, more or less, by using the device automation app MacroDroid. I’ve set it to regularly open certain apps (and then to launch the home screen after a few seconds) while the screen is off. I’m receiving Outlook notifications, my weather widget/notification remains active and so does my password manager (autofill keeps being offered). Obviously, this isn’t a real solution, just a rough workaround – it requires the right use case, reading, patience and some trial and error.

Interestingly, not every (non-preinstalled) app is broken. I believe that apps which launch a foreground “keep alive” service (in my case MacroDroid, Bitdefender Free and DropSync) are not killed. These apps all have persistent notifications which don’t get removed after a short period of time, or while clearing recent apps.

In contrast, apps such as Outlook, Today Weather and Firefox Lockwise are all terminated once they are cleared, or when not used for a short while (after 10 to 15 minutes, perhaps). Today Weather provides the option of a persistent notification, but I don’t believe it is intended as a “keep alive” notification and thus regularly disappears.

I think monxton39’s observation about DuraSpeed is interesting. It certainly seems like something is killing any app that isn’t preinstalled, or running a foreground service. I hope Lenovo are looking at this closely.

I would ask that Lenovo reflect on how the issues raised in this thread (and others) came to be and then to consider how well their current process for testing tablet software updates, obtaining user feedback and communicating with their customers is working.

For example, they could have a dedicated sticky thread for popular models where a member of the actual development team posts semi-regular updates, provides basic change logs and upcoming plans. Other manufacturers do this, in addition to providing official methods of customer support - it doesn’t need to be a thread where comments are individually addressed.

It's not normal that the customers have to manage these problems by themselves !

That's the real point!

It's a shame, I can't justify the behaviour of Lenovo managing this situation. Only few messages here and there, saying nothing just to postpone the problem.

May I ask for any information regarding the whereabouts of the second "upgrade" named ... 201215_BMP?

I've never installed it on my device (despite being offered), since I was more than happy with the first upgrade ... Recently, I've co-incidentally seen that I am on the current version, as my tablet tells me that there is no upgrade for me (anymore), and the installed version "TB-X606F_S300007_200923_BMP" actually is the current one.

Has the second version been withdrawn by Lenovo?

@Ala_Lenovo

Will our wait for a upgrade fixing all the issues reported in this thread ever end? Are there any plans to publish a useable version? Are the tech teams you are corresponding with actually working on finding a solution for your customers or have they already "moved on to new pastures"? Do these tech teams even exist or are we custumers and our problems with your upgrade just here for your and Lenovo's amusement?

@monxton39 How did you do that? Third-party rom?

I don't have the M10 that's being discussed here, so the firmware is different, though the Android 10 problems are the same.

My tablet is an M8 TB-8705F which I bought from China because the specification was not available in the UK, hence I followed the process described here Lenovo M8 P22T Octa Core 4GB RAM 64GB ROM 8 Inch 1920*1200 Android 9.0 OS Tablet to install the appropriate build with Android 9, which went without a hitch. It then immediately downloaded and installed the Android 10 update, which seemed like a good idea at the time, but I soon discovered that it was not.

As I have only owned it since Christmas, it wasn't too big a deal to trash it and start the process again from scratch. This time it did again start to download the update without asking me, but since it takes a long time to download, I was able to jump in and pause / cancel the download.

To stop it from re-attempting to download the update, I did:

  1. Settings -> System -> Developer options -> Automatic system updates -> OFF
  2. Settings -> System -> System Update -> Update settings -> Auto-download over WLAN -> OFF
  3. Settings -> System -> System Update -> Update settings -> Update overnight -> OFF
  4. Settings -> System -> Lenovo Feature Update -> OFF

I don't know if all those settings are necessary, but they are sufficient to stop it attempting to download the update. I just have a permanent red indicator next to System Update. Sometimes I get a notification (I now get notifications !!!) telling me that an update is available for download, which I just dismiss.
