Tab M8 FHD TB-8705F And DRM problems

2021-04-04, 2:48 AM

Hello, I am unable to stream any videos from some platforms (specifically, Criterion Channel) due to the HDCP compliance level (or whatever you call it) not being set at all for this device. This is preventing the video player from allowing videos to be streamed at all. I purchased this device after the Android 10 update, so I don't know if this was working properly under Android 9. Can this be properly fixed through a system update, or some other means?

In addition to that, is it possible to get this device Widevine L1 certified? Some video streaming apps won't allow HD streaming without that certification. If I remember correctly, the certification process is free, and this device should be powerful enough to handle it. This tablet was advertised as a great media tablet, and I purchased it to replace a (very) old Nexus 7 tablet, but currently I feel like I was ripped off -- that old tablet was able to stream HD from Criterion, Netflix, etc. until its dying days.

Bumping this up, is there any way to get these DRM-related problems resolved?

I just want to add a +1 for this.  I don't have the DRM issues since I don't use Criterion, but having a FHD tablet and having Netflix only support SD  because of the Widevine certification defeats the purpose of having a FHD screen.

Bumping this up again. Is there any way either to update the DRM/Widevine/HDCP info, or a way around it? This was advertised as a FHD tablet, and its too late to return it.
