Tab3 will not factory-reset

2018-06-05, 2:09 AM

Hello

My tab3 started acting up - it starts up, then reboots and so on continuously.

So I wanted to do factory-reset, and followed guidelines here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Android-based-Tablets-and/TAB3-7-Essential-Factory-Reset-without-Screen-Lock-Password/td-p/3603446

It does not work for me. As I hold the ip volume button and power button, the tab turns on and I get a white screen with the orange lenovo sign/box and it stays there.

When I try the same with downvolume button, i do get to a screen that looks like a recovery screen  but there is a list of chinese characters so I cannot read it.

any advice?

Hello Gregbala

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

The Chinese character screen would be the recovery screen.

I believe as most components are manufactured in China, this is just a factory default on some devices.

A short google search can give you plenty of examples for this such as:

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

EDIT: The link you posted I think may be wrong, or at least it does not let me access it.

The link doesn't work for me.. but from my experience I'll try to help..

I have the tab4. To enter recovery I use power & volume up. Your tablet is most likely the same. If your tablet is set to english, the recovery should be english. Volume down and power would be flashing mode or a test menu. It's possible test menu could be in chinese, although on my tab4 it's also english.

It can be tricky getting to recovery until you learn the correct " feel " of pushing the buttons, as they have to be pushed just right. If I'm understanding you correctly your tablet is in a bootloop of off and the lenovo boot animation. This makes it even trickier to get the buttons pushed together correctly.  Keep trying. Hold the power button down until the tablet goes off. Keep the power button pushed and then immediately push volume up. (If it vibrates before you push volume up you missed the proper timing, start over). Hold both down,  The lenovo square comes up. Keep holding both down, it can take 15 seconds or so after the lenovo box for recovery to come on. If that doesn't work try letting go of power after you see the lenovo box but keep holding volume up. Again, It might take 10-15 more seconds for recovery to come.  If not, try again.

If you make it to recovery, wiping cache may be all that's needed to fix your tablet. Its an option in the recovery menu. It can sometimes resolve a bootloop. A reset may not be needed. If you want to save your data you could try that first.  Wipe cache, reboot system to see if it boots. If not you'll have to go back to recovery and wipe data/ or do a reset.

Hope this helps. Follow my instructions at your own risk. ? Good luck.
