Tab4 8 plus Hard Bricked

Hey guys first time poster on the forum . I've always been able to figure this stuff out but this one has got me stumped. A few weeks ago I accidentally flashed the wrong ROM and it bricked this unit. I have attempted reflashing with all of the third party tools. Nothing they want flash at all. Finally used Lenovo rescue it will start at 50% but fails at 83%. Apparently I've got a Chinese model tablet. I get no response from the tablet at all. No ADB devices, no fastboot devices I disconnected the battery that didn't help. I purchased an edl cable that did not help. I guess it's going into edl mode as it brings up the Qualcomm 8002 port. That's the only interaction I can get is in the device manager when I plug the PC up. Hoping one of you smart guys can help me with this before I throw it in the trash. Thanks in advance

Thanks for the update @Wombat62 ,

It would be ideal to have it checked at any local repair stores in your area instead. It appears that there's a clear need of service for the tablet due to hardware defect. Just make sure to inquire how their store & repair policy works first before you bring the tablet. I'm sure that they can take a good look at it and offer a resolution under a reasonable price both parties would agree on.

Re:Tab4 8 plus Hard Bricked

Welcome to Lenovo Community @Wombat62 ,

I'm sorry to read about what happened with your tablet. It would be worth to try re-flashing the tablet's OS through the Rescue & Smart Assistant tool using a different PC/laptop. You may click here to download the tool again which also includes its User Guide.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
Adriel_Lenovo

Re:Tab4 8 plus Hard Bricked

Thank you very much Adriel for the kind welcome and encouragement. I did give it another go I'm getting the same result. Rescue starts at 50% everything seems to be flashing nicely until 83%.. then fail. I did notice on this try I was watching device manager and it flashed and lost connection just before failing. Am I missing a USB driver? I believe if it didn't Flash and lose connection for that brief moment the flash would have been successful.

Hello,

Were you able to use the Rescue & Smart Assistant tool on a different PC/laptop? If not, I suggest you to try downloading it there and connect the tablet to it then see how it goes. Please make sure that the device's screen (PC/laptop) doesn't go to Sleep state while the tablet is plugged. Other than that, I recommend you to follow the steps on this article to perform a factory reset inside Recovery mode.

Hope this works this time.

Thanks,
Adriel_Lenovo

Re:Tab4 8 plus Hard Bricked

I was finally able to use a friend's laptop to try to flash my tablet. Got the same result it would start at 60% and fail at 83%. I then got a Linux operating system device and this is where I have found the answer or at least what's the problem actually is. My tablet simply is not going into edl mode. No matter what I do it stays in diagnostic mode. I'm trying now to find out if there's a couple of places on the motherboard that I can short out that may force it into edl mode.
