Video of Lenovo k1 tablet gmail broken

2011-12-30, 21:27 PM

Hi guys,

I believe I have found K1 specific problem. I own a Think pad Tablet and we bought a K1 for my father in law for x-mas. He was complaining that he can't get all his email messages (approximately a dozen) through the gmail client. On the TPT, gmail is trivial but on the K1 it's a nightmare.

Here's a video to demostrate the bug:

Lenovo, this is not a gmail problem because I used my Google account on the K1 and I was able to reproduce the same results. That is I am unable to retrieve all my messages either (in my case 9000+ msgs).

On my TPT, I used my father's google account on it and I was able to retrieve mail with no problems. Therefore, I believe there is something wrong with the K1 device specific.

Gmail versions

K1 is running 3.1-124046

TPT is running 3.1-146451

How would I be able to update the K1 up to speed? When I do System Update it says "Your system is up to date."

When I go to Android Market, Gmail is not in "My Apps" for me to update.

I recall seeing this when I first started using the Ideapad K1 with Gmail, but I tried again just now and cannot reproduce the problem. I clicked on random labels,  and the conversations loads pretty quickly.

Either Gmail Sync is misbehaving or it takes a while for new accounts to sync properly.

Try playing around the Setup -> Accounts and Sync settings, especially disabling and enabling the Gmail sync option.

I wish Android had a better console for looking at Sync status or errors. It took me forever to get Browser bookmark sync to work... but that's another story.

Builds:

01//2012 - K1_A301_13_13_111209_US

thanks for the replies.

I have tried waiting over one hour for the gmail application to finalize the sync.  It never works.  When I use the other email app on the tablet, the conversations load very quickly for all labels.  It seems to be just the gmail app which would be nice to use as it uses push email, while the "other email app" only pulls.

I don't know how to uninstall the gmail app from the K1.  How do I do this as it was included with the tablet.  And the market version of the gmail app seems to be version 2.3.5.2 while the K1 comes with 3.1 installed.

I have done factory resets of the tablet with no change in behaviour.   I have cleared all data in the manage applications section of the gmail app.  No luck there either.

Does anyone have any other suggestions.

Hmm.  I don't recall seeing the unistall option as this is a system app.  PLus I would have thought that a full system reset would have cured this problem.  If I can uninstall, how would I find the honycomb gmail app (3.1) as the market only has a version 2.something.

Alas, I could not stand it anymore.  I begain to see the green lines as reported by others and have never gotten a good sync with any folder by the inbox and sent items.  This is my second K1 tablet.  The first had the worst wifi reception i have ever seen.  The second was better but had this gmail issue.

I have return the tablet to the store and purchased the acer a500.  I am very happy with this tablet.  Everthing works and runs flawlessly and I get USB connection to my camera!

Good luck with the K1, I really wanted to like this tablet as I love thinkpad notebooks, but too many things were just not right with the K1.

Hey guys, problem is fixed when you update the firmware from the Candian version to US.

C'mon lenovo. Why can you not deliver a N.American rom instead of a US only rom?

This helped me too
