Re: When and where the USB Host Cable for Ideapad K1 comes out?

2012-04-12, 20:53 PM
I had my K1 turned off when i received the cable, so I turned it on, plugged a memory card, and it has worked perfectly fine!

Tried it in my father in law's tablet (it was on) and i didn't have to reboot, it simply worked.

A bit of irony, the plastic bag packaging for the cable says the cable was made in Canada, but yet our canadian friends cannot order...

All in all, yesterday, with this cable, this tablet became what I always wanted the tablet for. I'm glad Lenovo came through.

I have to buy a new tablet or device, it will not be a Lenovo.
I not have decent post sales support for a simple and essential cable of my ideapad K1 tablet for more than 3 months and counting

Alright! Got my cable today from Lenovo and so far it was able to read a usb flashdrive and a usb portable hard drive (only the 1st partition though so need to do more troubleshooting with that).

My cable shipped yesterday and shows out for delivery today.  I'm not sure why though it says the delivery requires a signature which of course I'll likely be at work when they do attempt to delivery it.

To follow up on my previous post, I was able to read a FAT32 flas drive. It appears that NTFS is not nativily supported in honeycomb. Here is an excerp from Wikipedia:

External storage Most Android devices include microSD slot and can read microSD cards formatted with FAT32,Ext3fs or Ext4fsfile system. To allow use of high-capacity storage media such as USB flash drives and USB HDDs, many Android tablets also include USB 'A' receptacle. Storage formatted with FAT32 is handled by Linux Kernel VFAT driver, while 3rd party solutions are required to handle other popular file systems such as NTFS, HFS Plus and exFAT.

Right, I had seen the same information, and was wondering about people's experience with USB-attached HDDs.  Has anyone been able to read a NTFS-formatted HDD with their new cable?

Here's one of those 3rd party apps: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.dach.drivemount&hl=en

I'm still waiting on my cord to show up but maybe one of you guys who already got yours could give it a try.

Did someone say this cable is made in Canada? This Canadian just discovered that Provantage wanted to charge $31.50 to ship to Canada. That is 4 times the normal charge within the US. Unacceptable!!!

I have cancelled the order and am looking for alternatives.

I looked too

Seems to be the around the same rate for most I have tried ( 28.00 to 35.00).

Don't forget to thank Lenovo for the screw job against Canada.

Mine was sourced in "CN" which I'd guess is more likely China than Canada. At least it arrived before the trip that I really want it for.
