Re: k1 - Android Market (Client out of date)

For my experience updating Market apk manually see:

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Slate-Tablets/K1-Android-Market-PLEASE-UPDATE-THIS/m-p/648253#M3725

Before this recent "client is out of date..." update: the Market app icon always opened the older Market version, and I had to click on "My Apps" to go to new Market.

The good news is after updating, it removed my existing market app icon, and the new market app icon now opens the new v3.4.4 Market directly!

There are still two versions of the Market on my K1:

v3.4.4 - manual apk version I originally installed was 3.3 but it auto- updated to newer 3.4.4 version

v.1.1.0 - preinstalled version that was updated from 1.0.28

Builds:
01/18/2012 - K1_A301_14_14_120109_US
01//2012 - K1_A301_13_13_111209_US

If you have two copies can you delete the preinstalled copy version 1·1?

I have had the same problem with the android market place giving me the ( client out of date...). I had done a factory reboot and that had fixed the problem. The only thing is that you loose everything and go back to all original settings.

Hi,

I had  the same problem on Thinkpad Tablet and it seems that also Samsung devices have this problem. But theres a solution without factory reboot. You need the ES File Explorer. Since you cannot get it with an outdated Market, you have to download it from the developers site:

http://www.estrongs.com/en/download.html

Allow installation of non-market-applications, follow the link with your tablet, download and install the  ES File Explorer.

After this start the ES File Explorer. See that you are "local" (Top-Left-Corner) an select the appmanager in the toolbar (if theres no toolbar try the button in the top-right-corner).

In the app-manger show all apps (choose with the 4th button in the toolbar, in german its called "Kategorie", maybe "type" in English. Then you should find an app called "My Apps" (?, german "Meine Apps").

Start this app and you can update the Market and thats it.

Sorry if i cannot give the precise english names of buttons and apps, but cause i am german my system in german.

Edit: I just  saw that you can get the  ES File Explorer also from the Lenovo App shop, anyway its freeware.

I started experiencing this problem today on my Thinkpad tablet. This may have been a problem prior to today, but I don't always use the Marketplace daily.

Anyway, after some research it appeared to me that this seems to be a widespread problem for many tablets and there are two solutions right now. The first is to download the newer version of the marketplace from the link provided earlier in this conversation thread. The second is to somehow get the Market to update itself. A distant third might be to actually try the factory reset. This to me is always a last option when all other options have been tried.

Deciding to take the most non-destructive course first and already having ES File Explorer installed, I tried the solution proposed above by Mobochum. His instructions are dead on and it works!!

Still on Market 1.0.28 and I may indeed try to upgrade to the newer version but for now all is fine again and I could get the other downloads taken care of that spurred all this research today.

All,

I was unable to to do factory reset and I had contacted Lenovo Support before all these other replies started coming in. I sent the tablet back to the US depot in TX.

Basically, they replaced motherboard (if they hadn't said so, I'd have figured it out by the tablet not connecting to my Wifi since I have MAC access control on as well as WPA-PSK and saw that the MAC address on my tablet was different...hence new motherboard.) And of course, when they did that, they were able to reset my tablet. Had to disable my email and all of that prior to sending it to the depot.

So far, the tablet is working fine and Market isn't giving me any issues as of late.
