A2109 - Updated ClockworkMod Recovery for Jelly Bean

2012-12-12, 12:07 PM

I've updated CWM recovery for Jelly Bean:

A2109_CWMrecovery-6.0.1.9d.img (MD5: 6957151c118956b401445e042064be85)

You can reroot by reinstalling Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip in the new CWM.

If you're still running Ice Cream Sandwich you should continue to use A2109_CWMrecovery-6.0.1.9c.img.

Hi,

Thanks for the great work!

I dont understand something in the instructions:

Right now, i have the ICS...and i want to upgrade to the new Jelly Bean.

LeTools.

adb.

fastboot.

A2109_CWMrecovery-6.0.1.9d.

boot.img (under A2109A_MCL0103).

Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.

What ecactly should i do?

What are the correct orderliness of all these tools?

Do i need to make the ROOT again if my device is rooted already?

P.S: the A2109_CWMrecovery-6.0.1.9d.img is the most recent version?

Appreciate you kinkly help!!!

Re: A2109 - Updated ClockworkMod Recovery for Jelly Bean

Hello Everyone,
Just let me start by saying that of course I'm a proud owner of a new IdeaTab A2109A, previously I owned/used a Viewsonic Gtablet. At the time of purchase, it came with some really'outdated'software, it was called TapNTap. Upon my first use of'that' software, I knew right away that I'd have to have something else, so I rooted it,then installed the latest LATEST CWM Recovery software available. I installed several different rom's until I finally found one that I was satisfied with. I ended up having the SmootherBean ROM I downloaded from a'popular' website that a lot of people use (XDA). In the case of my A2109A, the'factory'installed software is a LOT nicer/newer than what I had previously. I assume it's the same with lenovo as it was with viewsonic, when you modify your tablet it'voids' the warranty. My thinking is at least for now, I'm going to leave my installed software alone. I've already received one o.t.a. update from lenovo, and it's worked great so far. At least I know if I ever need to'modify' the software, I can. So far anyway, the biggest issue I'm having is the'incorrect'amount of time that's being displayed on lenovo's website when I check my amount of time left on my tablet. Happy New Year Everyone !

Re: A2109 - Updated ClockworkMod Recovery for Jelly Bean

2013-01-01, 13:58 PM

Here is what I did with the recoveries

The recoveries are a bit confusing, rename A2109_CWMrecovery-6.0.1.9d.img to A2109_CWrecovery-jellybean.img makes it so much easier now this recovery is for jellybean. download A2109_CWMrecovery-6.0.1.9c.img rename to A2109_CWrecovery-ics.img this recovery is for ics.

As far as updating to jellybean you don't have to use recovery method, you can just go into settings and have your tablet update itself. custom recoveries are mainly used to make backups and flash roms, you can flash a custom jellybean rom if you want.

vampirefo,

You answed to my question, am i right?

What exactly should i rename? and why? i've found nothing regarfinh "rename"...

Again - i have right now the CUSTOM ROM OF THE ICS ... i want to have the CUSTOM ROM OF THE JB.

Do i need to use: jellybean.img  .... OR ... ics.img ?

I can't update from the tablet itself as i have a rooted custon rom (that what the logic says).

Love to hear from you...

Thanks!

Re: A2109 - Updated ClockworkMod Recovery for Jelly Bean

2013-01-01, 15:02 PM

There are two recoveries, so what I did was download both and rename them so I could quickly look at them and know what recovery is for what OS, you don't have to do that, I just stated what I had done.

if you want to install custom jellybean rom, you first need to unlock your bootloader install cw recovery for ics, then use the cw recovery for ics to install custom jellybean rom, then install cw recovery for jellybean.

you have a custom ics rom, you need to have ics cw recovery, jellybean cw recovery wont work on ics,  once you flash the jellybean rom, the ics recovery doesn't work anymore so you would then need to flash the  jeallybean recovery.

Re: A2109 - Updated ClockworkMod Recovery for Jelly Bean

2013-01-01, 18:11 PM

But why did you renamed the 2 recoveries? Clearly they mentioned that the one that ends with "c" is the old ICS rooted ver' and the one that ends with "d" is the new JB.

Regarding your instructions for installing the new JB rom: even those I already rooted my device – I still need to unlock again the bootloader?

I don’t understand you (last paragraph) – do I need to flash 2 times the JB rom?

Can you please tell me in 1->2->3->4->5 stages what do I need to do and what is the required tool for proceed it?

Explanation for why do i need it in this templet: at the past, my short time memory was completely lost … today I have memory but I cant read a lot of details together bc's is mixed up and I forget what was the last paragraph.

Thanks so much for understanding and help!

That is up to you, c and d mean nothing to me, the recoveries in my opinion should have been labeled jellybean and ics from the start,. that is why I renamed them, once they are on my pc they are mine, to label as I see fit.

If you don't want to rename yous then don't stick with the c and d stuff.

"specific case" = that my device is already rooted? i dont need to install the "Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip"

So i dont need to rename them and if i want to flash the JB - i just have to pick the:

A2109_CWMrecovery-6.0.1.9d.img

The root is stays after rom changing?

If do - that means that i just need to flash the: A2109_CWMrecovery-6.0.1.9d.img + flashing the rom?

But i dont find the jellybean rom - where is it?

In the Updated Jelly Bean of mcl630 i found only the Recovery!

There are two Jellybean roms, you choose the one you want.

Re: So i just need to chose one of them (the most updated)....

2013-01-03, 5:33 AM

The ROM is the zip file.

Both custom ROMs include root.

There are two versions of the recovery:

Use 6.0.1.9c if you are currently running ICS.

Use 6.0.1.9d if you are currectly running JB.

Meaning:  If you're trying to upgrade from an ICS ROM to a JB ROM, use 6.0.1.9c for the update, then install 6.0.1.9d after for future updates or ROM changes.

Everything you say is correct.

  1. Choose one of the ROMs that vampirefo. linked.  The first is the MCL JB ROM, and the second is a "themed" ROM from flashallthetime.
  2. Copy that ROM zip to your tablet.
  3. Install it using the clockworkmod recovery.
  4. Flash clockworkmod 6.0.1.9d from your PC using fastboot.
  5. Profit!

Re: A2109 - Updated ClockworkMod Recovery for Jelly Bean

2013-01-03, 8:23 AM

Hi,

This is the info from my tablet:

*Android Version: 4.0.4

*Kernel Version: 3.1.10

*Build-svr-a@build-svr-a#1

*SMP PREEMPT  Thu Oct 18

*Build number: MCL0103_IL

*Hardware Info: 0.SS16

If my device is ROOTED - do i still need to:

1) Copy that zip (ROM) to your  INTERNAL SD in the  tablet.

2) Install the zip (ROM) using the clockworkmod recovery (WHILE TABLET IS CONNECTED TO COMPUTER).

3) Flash clockworkmod 6.0.1.9d (why "d" and not "c"?) from your PC using fastboot.

After you seen the details of my current rom - which version do i need to use - C or D?

I need to use with those 2 files, right?

* jb-inverted.zip.rgt442n (which is the ROM)

* A2109_CWMrecovery-6.0.1.9c (which is the recovery),

???

Or just tell me which are the 2 files (recovery + rom) from that list do i need to download and flash to the tablet:

Thanks for putting your time into that!

Re: A2109 - Updated ClockworkMod Recovery for Jelly Bean

  1. Copy MCL 201 ROM to your tablet.
  2. Reboot into recovery.
  3. Install MCL 201 ROM (zip file).
  4. Connect your tablet to your PC.
  5. Boot into fastboot.
  6. Flash clockworkmod 6.0.1.9d (img file).
  7. Reboot.  Your Android version will now be 4.1.1.

That's it.  The d version is for Jelly Bean, which is what MCL 201 is based on.  Oh, answers to your questions:

  1. Copy to internal or external.
  2. Yes (connected or not, doesn't matter, except you must be connected for fastboot).
  3. Yes (d is for Jelly Bean/4.1.1 ROM).

And you don't need either of those two files you list.  You need MCL 201 ROM and clockworkmod 6.0.1.9d.

FloRider,

So: I shell use ONLY with the 2 file names:

1) MCL ROM 201 (for 4.1.1).

2) CWM for 4.1.1 (6.0.1.9d).

It's based after you noticed that i currently running the ICS rom...right?

I appreciate you efforts helping me so much!!!

Wish all of you best year!

Yes.  Just install the ROM first, then flash the clockworkmod.  Happy New Year to you too :).

Oh...b.t.w:

This is how i reboot into the recovery of the A2109 and FASTBOOT?

1) Shutdown the tablet.

2) While tablet is OFF - connet the tablet to the PC USB.

3) Hold down on the Volume UP untile it boot up.

This is exactly how i doing the:

*Get into the recovery.

*Operate Fastboot.

I know in my S3 that its combination of:  power key+home key+volume key .... and when it started booting - releace the power key and stay with home key+volume key.

As there is NO home key in the A2109 ... i wonder what is the way to get into the recovery?

Thanks!
