Yes, it's installed by Lenovo Tools (just browse Program Files / Lenovo Tools / ).

The link to LeTools is in this thread: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Slate-Tablets-Knowledge/Unlocking-the-A2109-Bootloader/ta-p/857215

The only need for fastboot (and drivers for that matter) is to unlock your bootloader and install clockwork recovery. Once you have your bootloader unlocked and clockwork recovery installed, you can do everything without a PC (download a ROM directly on your tablet, reboot to clockwork recovery, install a ROM).

On Windows you need drivers for fastboot to work. You install clockwork recovery once, but some ROMs (like stock) can reflash recovery on boot. If that happens, you will need to reboot to bootloader (power button + volume down) and flash clockwork recovery again.

Fastboot for Windows (and drivers) is provided by LeTools (Lenovo Tools), not ROM.

Shaby's going from 4.0.4 to 4.1.1.  JB uses a different clockworkmod -- don't ask me why.  But I wouldn't run JB on the other version of clockworkmod.  Who knows what that could mean for Nandroid backups?  I'd flash cwm 6.0.1.9d after installing JB.

Hi fellows...

Please confirm if i understood you right:

Bc's i'm on ICS 4.0.4  and want to upgrade to JB 4.1.1 ...... I would need to do it with:

A2109_CWMrecovery-6.0.1.9d.img   +   The JB rom?

Not as one/few fo yours have told me here?

Summering all the process - can you  please composite the entirely "task", by writing the entirely process (1...2...3...) , including with which tool do i need to use in each specific step, including also the file type (img/zip...)?

If i will have a documnet infront of my eyes it will be the only way for me to remember it (i have a very hard memory problems bc's of a brain surgery that i had in the past).

Thanks very much!

Sure.  This should be pretty easy.  You're on MCL ROM now, so you might as well upgrade to the MCL Jelly Bean ROM.

  1. Download ClockworkMod 6.0.1.9d (.img) from here.
  2. Plug your tablet into your PC.
  3. Copy MCL 201 (.zip) to your tablet.  You can find the file here.
  4. Reboot into ClockworkMod recovery (either with 'adb reboot recovery' or powering on and tapping Vol+ immediately).
  5. Wipe the Dalvik Cache (under the Advanced options in CWM).
  6. Install the ROM zip with ClockworkMod.
  7. Reboot (you'll be running Jelly Bean).
  8. After the system updates, boot into fastboot mode.  The best way to do this is to type 'adb reboot bootloader' on your PC while running JB.
  9. When fastboot mode loads, give it a second for your PC to recognize your tablet.  You can tell by typing 'fastboot devices'.
  10. Flash CWM 6.0.1.9d by typing 'fastboot flash recovery A2109_CWMrecovery-6.0.1.9d.img'.

Now you're on MCL Jelly Bean, with the proper CWM installed.

Hello Everyone,
Not to even attempt to get in anyone's personal business in here, but I ask this question? Why does it seem to be the thinking of what seems to be quite a few of you in here, that you are wanting to'mod'your A2109 tablet ? At least with mine, it came loaded with some pretty neat software. I will admit there might be some thing's I might have left off, but they can easily be uninstalled the'normal' way. As I've mentioned previously, the tablet I owned previously was a viewsonic gtablet, not that'original' software was terrible, and I knew right away that something HAD to be done so I might actually like using my grab. So of course I had to'modify'the software. Of course concerning our A2109's, my thoughts are the software is pretty usable, so at least for now, I'm going to wait. Good luck to those of you that decide to'mod' your tablet.
David :-)

After i read your guidance - 2 more questions:

1) During all the process - can i avoid from using the adb and just use the regular way - powering on and tapping Vol+ immediately  ???

Accessing to "Adb" can be done with the PC's  CMD (Run-> CMD)?

2) From all the wipes you'v mentioned only the "Dalvik Cache" ... what about the

* "wipe data/factory reset".

* "wipe cache partition".

I need to do them all, or ONLY  what you said -"Dalvik Cache"?

If do, are they supposed to be done together with Dalvik Cache in stage N.5 ?

Thanks very much,,,
