Battery drains after charging

2019-04-21, 8:28 AM

Hello Everyone, I have come across a very weird problem with my Lenovo Tab4 10 I recently purchased. At first I noticed that the battery is draining very fast also in standby mode (down to 60-70% in a day). I thought the solution was to clear the cache which actually helped. But now the problem is this: whenever I charge my tablet I need to figure out a way, set a setting, or clear the cache (I did not figure out what the real solution is, because it seems random) to avoid quick draining in standby. This actually means that if I am lucky my tablet stay charged OK for days in standby, but if I am not it drains as described above. And even if I figure out the "magic solution" after a charge and I am happy with the battery life, once I do have to charge again, the problem comes back. As if something is triggered by the charging, but I cannot figure out what. Anyone can help with this? Thanks a lot in advance.

Never had this problem on Tab4 8, which is similar.  You don't say much about how your tablet is configured for screen use or what heavy background apps might be installed.  If you haven't yet, I'd let the battery run down and then check Android Settings / Battery / hit the three dots upper right to "Show full device usage" (in Android 8.1 menu) and review what's draining it.

My personal battery saving "technique" is to disable automatic screen settings, keep brightness low, dim at 15 seconds and use an app (Keepscreen) to keep it lit for specific listed apps.  I also use an app (Greenify) to turn off background processes which are not wanted.  Some apps (including Facebook, other social media and most news media apps) with hyperactive alerts and notifications are famous battery hogs.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I figured out it doesn't have to do anything with heavy background apps - there are none. It's always the system draining the battery. In some cases I manage to do something to avoid this. Sometimes it is cleaning the cache, which btw shouldn't have to be done every time and I also don't understand how it is in connection with charging.

I'd try reviewing the three dots "full device usage" as above.  A former Acer tablet had a terrible problem with "Tablet idle" drain that was somewhat helped with the Recovery Mode menu / System Cache Wipe (not sure if that's what you're already doing).   Even so the Acer was always ridiculously high. Tablet idle on this Lenovo is single digits percent, the screen is always the big villain.

Yes, that is what I am trying - wiping the cache. Most cases it helps, but not always. And also, what is the connection with charging and I guess it is not normal that it needs to be done after every charging. Must be some other problem, or not?

In my experience charging hasn't affected cache build-up at all.  System and various separate app caches accumulate over time and especially large Android system upgrades and updates leave huge caches of leftover junk files.  I do the Recovery Mode cache wipe after those, or whenever a device seems slower than usual.  As I wrote, minimizing screen and background processes work for the battery.

If anyone is still having such issue, it can be because of keeping bluetooth connection "on".  This setting is draining a lot of battery at the background. So I suggest anyone who is having same problem to turn it off till Lenovo solves this problem (at least i hope they will).

Hello, unfortunately it has nothing to do with bluetooth. Mine is turned off and battery is draining like hell. 2 days standbye and it is gone. Clearing cache occasionally helps, but after another recharge the problem comes back. Basically makes the tablet unusable. Very sad not to have a solution from Lenovo.

Hello! I'm also a user of Lenovo TAB4 10. This is really an issue. Yesterday, I charged my tab to 100%, and after that, I kept it in my bag. When I opened it today, I found it warm and it was at 45% capacity! There were no background apps running. But the system showed that Zoom Cloud Meetings was used for 2 hrs and 17 minutes!!!! The app WASN'T CLEARED, BUT HOW CAN IT RUN WHEN I CLOSE THE APP?!

It's the same problem; the system only takes up a lot of battery consumption; it once said that the system consumers 121%!!!!! How in the world is it consuming that much amount of battery?
