2012-01-10, 19:46 PM

I just installed a micro SD card in my K1 and I'm not sure how to tell if it's being recognized.I went to settings, then storage, then SD card and pushed 'mount SD card' and nothing seems to happen. Can someone tell me what I need to do?

You should see something like that

If you dont i recommend you to turn off your device before plugging SD card on.

Re: K1 Micro SD card Question

2012-01-10, 20:25 PM

If the K1 doesn't see a card in there at all, every setting under Storage | SD Card will be grey (inactive).

If the K1 sees a card in there but can't read it for some reason, Storage | SD Card | Mount Card and Storage | SD Card | Erase Card will be white (active), but tapping them will only result in a long pause, sometimes followed by an error message allowing you to force close Settings. All other settings under Storage | SD Card will be grey.

If the K1 sees a card in there and can read it, every setting under Storage | SD Card will be white, it will show you the card capcity and space available on it, and Mount Card will now show as Unmount Card..

To seat your card properly, first turn the K1 off with a long press of the power switch. You have to push the card in until it clicks and bounces out only part of the distance, like a retractable ballpoint pen mechanism. I find that my fingers are too fat and nails are too short to push the card in far enough, so I use the rounded end of the tool (or the end of an unstraightened peperclip) to push it in.

Yeah, it's an awkward design. Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback.I've removed the card and put it back in with the power off and still only have the 'mount SD card option  in white letters' showing and there's nothing else showing under the words SD card..Can the card only go in one way(with the brass contacts facing the back of the machine)? What can cause this problem?

Re: K1 Micro SD card Question

Micro sd is 2gb and below
Anything above 2gb is called micro sdhc. Hc stands for high capacity.

Idont know about microsdxc. My guess xc stands for extra high capacity or anything above 32gb. Its just my guess, others may have the answer.

I think its more of a marketing ploy or naming than technical reasons.

K1 technicals specs mention 32gb max. I guess thats the size for k1.

@Burger:

yep, I know that. I was asking the original poster about the specs of the card which did not work.

And no: it´s not marketing, it´s tech spec issue !!!!!

microSDHC works in K1.

microSDXC does not work in K1

I do not know if microSD works.

Cheers, Jorge

My card, which DOES work, is a microSDHC, 16 GB, and it's an inexpensive Staples house brand.

I should add that mine has come unseated at least oncce, requiring me to pop open that nasty little trapdoor and click it back down again. A1 users complain of thsi too. Once again, awful design.

And to answer the earlier question, yes, you insert cards with the metal contact fingers toward the back of the tablet.

Re: K1 Micro SD card Question

2012-01-11, 17:19 PM

I own both K1 and A1 (for my wife). I'm not sure if this applies, but I'm having the same issues with the A1. Everytime I power off the tablet, the external sd card unmounts. If I put the card in while powered off, it will not recognize the card. If I pop the card out then back in , while powered up, It will allow me to mount the card, until my next restart. I've tried 3 different micro sd brands and the same result with each. After speaking to the reps at Lenovo, I've  sent it Texas for warranty repair. No idea when I will be getting it back or if they have any idea how to fix it..

I had the same problem as the OP. I fixed it by reformating the card with FAT32 and default allocation size. After that, the K1 recognized it with no problem.

Re: K1 Micro SD card Question

2012-02-08, 10:04 AM

Hi All,

I just bought a lenovo K1 tablet and I'm having a simular issue with my San Disk 32GB Class 4 card. The K1 recognizes its there under storage settings, it formats and mounts it and tells me the Available and free size, but I can not seem to access the SD card with any file manager on the on the K1 and the K1 will not allow my Windows computer to even detect there is a storage card to mount so that I can move files onto it from the computer, it only allows the built in 32gb memory to be detected as a Portable device.

I think its pretty useless if I spent good money on 32gb micro and can't even use it at all.

Help!

Your woes is just starting. If you still have a achance to return the k1 return it and get your money back. This tablet exhausted my patience. And it also exhaust your if you dont get rid of it soon.

Hi from Streetsville, Coltaurus!

Your external microSD card shows up as a folder on the internal SC card, believe it or not. I guess it's a shortcut or alias. Look for "/mnt/sdcard/external_sd".

Depending on the file manager you use, you may also see it at "/mnt/sdcard2" and "/sdcard/external_sd". I use the free version of Astro File Manager, but I'm also going to check out ES File Manager.

I saw somewhere in the support docs on the Lenovo site (sorry, can't find it right now) a screenshot of Windows Explorer recognizing the external SD card as a separate device. But like your experience, my Win7 PC only shows the K1 as a single portable storage device. You can still drag files back and forth between your PC and the external SD card by using the shortcut-alias above.

If you lose connection with your external microSD card, it probably needs to be popped down further. It goes far enough down that you really have to use the butt end of the supplied tool or a paper clip to do this right.

I hope this helps!

Addition to Reply: Just found this on the knowledge Base,

Answer  http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/acer-iconia-tab-a500-forum/23920-3-2-app-sd.html

Android Honeycomb 3.2  doesn't support moving apps to your SD card}    So if this is true then a software change Upgrade may solve this problem.

My Problem is the card, doesn't allow the SD card to show as additional memory, even after being formmated Fat 32 default. Tried various size chips all sandisk though, that's what I have and are received and used from phones to computers.

I just want the memory to show correctly in the files tree.

Thanks,

Ron Mc

Re: K1 Micro SD card Question

My Transcend Micro 32GB microSDHC worked in the K1, right out of the package. Did not had any problems installing. I've loaded music and several transcoded movies onto it, and so far it has worked great!

The "external" sd card does not show up as added space on the internal storage, but rather as a separate device, although it is mounted under the "external_sd" folder in the filesystem so that application access to it is transparent.
