Lenovo Tab 2 a-1070f signature verfication failed on 6.0 android install?

I have a Lenovo 10 inch tablet android 5.0.1 that was working from when brand new. Today I noticed a 6.0 marshmallow update. I downloaded. Ok'd install and I received this message: Opening update package signature verification failed. Instalation aborted. That kept flashing I finally held the power button to get to recovery. Any ideas on what to do. I mostly want the tablet to function correctly. Figured the update from Lenovo was good. My  mistake. They won't help.

Re: Lenovo Tab 2 a-1070f signature verfication failed on 6.0 android install?

I unplugged when I had time after a couple of hours. Still couldn't shut off. I finally held the power button for a long time and was taken to the recovery mode. Didn't know there was one in this tablet. While there I had so many choices including adding os from SD card and pc or factory reset. I ended up accidentally rebooting which installed the correct os. I then used goooogle to download all of my files. Took a long time on that small mistake as I should maybe have kept files. However the problem might have been I didn't have enough memory space and Lenovo file didn't tell me until it was too late. Os 6 is worth installing if it's dine correctly. Hope this helps someone who has os upgrade problem also.

Re: Lenovo Tab 2 a-1070f signature verfication failed on 6.0 android install?

I had a similar problem updating the system from v5.0.1 to v6.0. But my experience (by dumb luck) may be helpful to others who have this problem. There may be hope...at least, I was lucky. The device recovered from its problem.

I initiated the system update and it warned me it may take awhile, so I was not surprised when hours later it seemed to be grinding away still. Then paying a bit more attention, I could see it was in a loop....the little green android man would be moving all of his parts, very busy, then at approx. one third completion point (on the progress indicator) a message would flash in the lower left hand corner. It was a very fast flashed message....took me several iterations to grasp enough words in the message to go to the internet for help. I later learned the full message text, it said,

"Opening Update Package
Signature Verification Failed
Installation Aborted."

Then it would retry, apparently, over and over....with same result. It had been going through that loop for a long time, probably hours before I realized what was happening.

After sufficient "What do I do now?" time, and reading the threads on this site, and visions and frustration of the device likely to be a "brick" now, I was hesitant to do anything that I might later regret until I had explored the likely problem and possible fixes for the problem. After much of that time and some depression, I decided I would try to turn the device off. So, taking a big gasp of air, I pressed the On/Off Power button on the device...holding it down and decided I would just hold it down with the hope of some response, but more in anger then any knowledge. I don't remember clearly what was happening on the display, if anything at all (...too busy being frustrated), but after some time (likely several minutes...I was angry!) the blank screen display was replaced with the following in the upper left hand part of the display:

Android System Recovery <3e>
A10-70F_S000123_160921_ROW

{...then instruction on how to make a choice...}
Volume Up/Down to move highlight
Enter Power key to select

{...then the choices were listed...}
Reboot System now
Apply update from ADB SDcard cache
Wipe cache partition
Backup user data
Restore user data
Root integrity check
Reboot to bootloader
Power down
View recovery logs

I knew little of the other choices, so I chose "Reboot System now."

Then the screen cleared, followed by the typical Lenovo boot screen (I think). It just seemed like nothing was happening. I waited and waited...then noticed the line below the Lenovo logo. It was faint...except at the far left, appeared to be a dark Period at the left end. After some time more of the line became dark...oh, must be a progress indicator...YES!!...but not sure of any sucess yet. Then eventually, it began the typical process of initiating a new device when it is first used. Ah! Relief!

The update was all completed fairly quickly from that point on. All is normal as far as I can see. I claim complete success. <g>

Just hope this might encourage and give some insight to others who share the initial problem.

I really appreciate your detailed post and solution. I had the same issue while updating my tablet and I was leary of bricking it by powering it off during the install. I really wasn't left with any other option though. It was still encouraging to see someone else had done it and that their tablet successfully recovered before trying it myself. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience - Dond-!

Re: Lenovo Tab 2 a-1070f signature verfication failed on 6.0 android install?

Thank you so much for the information. I just experienced the same thing. I only had to hold down the power button until I saw the lenovo boot screen. I didn't have to select anything. I fully intended on following the instructions. I just thought it was going to take longer than it actually did. I looked away for a minute and looked back and I had the logo screen. It was white with an orange logo instead of the black with red logo. I let go of the power button. The screen blinked a couple times and then came back but stayed on the logo screen. Since nothing was happening I looked for the progress bar and it was there under the logo. Once it completed the updates, It came back as if there was no interruption.

Re: Lenovo Tab 2 a-1070f signature verfication failed on 6.0 android install?

I had the same issue. I called the call center they were absolutely no help asked for $110 and when I started asking why considering this update bug should be their responsibility they hung up on me. So I hit the power button, thought maybe the installation hadn't started and I could go back to what I had. Freaked out a bit when I saw the black screen with thoese options. I tried rebooting and it worked, got a orange Lenovo logo and a progress bar. Update went through everything is fine now. Except I am pretty dissatisfied with the call center attitude
