Added new ram to Lenovo G50-70, now screen flickers when opened specific apps.

so i recently got a new 8gb ram stick which is fully compatible with my laptop ( i think) the Ram is: Kingston 8GB DDR3L PC3L-12800 1600MHz 1.35V Non-ECC CLL1 Laptop Memory. my laptop is a G50-70 with 4 ram. so i'd have a total of 12Gb of ram. but when i added the ram and played a game (fornite) it started to flicker. A black line going down and repeating. Now its pretty unplayable, i've tried to run the memory error detecting control panel thing; did not work. i started the laptop with both ram sticks alone both worked (agian with both the new 8gb ram stick and the old 4gb ram stickdid the flickering) now i have a 14 day left warrenty to return the ram stick. do you think there is a solution or just return it and somone can recommend me a FULLY compatible ram stick. mabye try slowing the mhz of the ram as i think the flickering is the refresh rate of the laptop screen trying to keep up with the ram speed.

PLEASE HELP

(when ever i try screenshotting it. it doesn't appear, which means its the monitor not the game)

Re: Added new ram to Lenovo G50-70, now screen flickers when opened specific apps.

Hi amrmohamed800,

Greetings.

Specification does mention max is at 16 GB . Specification for the RAM is  1600MHz DDR3L (low voltage) SDRAM (PC3-12800S) much the same as your 8GB stick.

I suggest you try to use just the 8GB stick on each slot to check if you are having the same issue. This would help isolate if it was the ram stick or the slot having issue. You can also test the same 4GB on the other slot to test.

Use the parts lookup tool here. Click on Compatible tab under configuration section and narrow the commodity list to memory to get the recommended ram for you. The hardware manual (page 80 item 12) would also show tested RAM for your machine.

The steps mentioned would help us decide if we have a faulty ram so you can return it. Similar discussion here.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Re: Added new ram to Lenovo G50-70, now screen flickers when opened specific apps.

Hi amrmohamed800,

How was it testing the 4GB on each slot?

Any flickering when 8GB alone was used on each slot?

The VGA chip is more likely well soldered onboard but perhaps you can check if the there are any cables loose internally or secure the fan and heatsink assembly.

Regards

Re: Added new ram to Lenovo G50-70, now screen flickers when opened specific apps.

Hi amrmohamed800,

Greetings.

If you are done testing each ram on each slot to isolate then consider reviewing the hardware manual here for the steps. Video chip may not have a wire itself since it is expected to be soldered directly on the board.

Consider perhaps securing the LCD cables along with the other cables that may been loosened during the upgrade. Flickering should happen also even without the 8GB ram if it was the case.

Don't lose note on the return date of the memory stick.

Regards
