B50-45 - Lenovo Updates app fails on Windows 10 with "Network Problem" error

After installation of Windows 10 on my B50-45, the laptop requested that I install "Lenovo Updates" which ends up being LU.exe  I did that, and now when I start the program from the Desktop shortcut it installed, I receive the error message "Network Problem".

This is not an Internet access problem, as all installed browsers work correctly.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Re: Lenovo Updates app fails on Windows 10 with "Network Problem" error

Hi there, Wizard-

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Would you have a problem with your Wi-Fi?
Would you be using the updater under Lenovo Solution Center or similar to ThinkVantage System Update . (Troubleshooting System Update: on bottom of the Article)

You may also run Lenovo Solution Center for a Check-up > Hardware

Warnings appear due to the state of the network your PC is connected to and not the state of the wireless LAN hardware in the PC.  For example, the user may not be connected to a wireless LAN network or the wireless LAN network may not have access to the internet. "

Update us how it goes.

Re: Lenovo Updates app fails on Windows 10 with "Network Problem" error

You must have not read the part I wrote above that "all installed browsers work correctly."

The WiFi connection is working correctly and the Internet connection is working correctly for all other functions.

The Lenovo Solution Center no longer has a linkage to any software update function.

It says I must go to Lenovo's web site to search for updates.

Why did Lenovo install the new "Lenovo Updates" (LU.exe) program if the search must be done manually?

Why did Lenovo separate LU.exe from the Solution Center?

Re: Lenovo Updates app fails on Windows 10 with "Network Problem" error

Welcome to the Lenovo Community The_Wizard !

One comment.... With Windows 10, Lenovo updates can now be obtained with the Companion 3 app which can be installed from the Windows Store if you do not have it installed already.

As for the "LU" desktop shortcut, I suspect that was a remnant from the upgrade of Lenovo Update.  The Lenovo Update is possibly used in conjunction with Companion 3 and needed to be updated and it left a "whoops" behind on your desktop.  If "LU"  shortcut doesn't work then I would just delete it.

Re: Lenovo Updates app fails on Windows 10 with "Network Problem" error

Thank you for your input.

The Lenovo Companion app was already installed.  I had not noticed it.

It is annoying in several ways, but it seems to work properly.

I especially dislike that you cannot make a Desktop shortcut for it.

That makes it hard for me to integrate it into my monthly maintenance process.

Thanks again.

Re: Lenovo Updates app fails on Windows 10 with "Network Problem" error

You are more than welcome.  I'm glad to be of help.

You sound like me when it comes to grouping desktop shortcuts for a specific purpose.  Have you considered the opposite approach and create a tile for each maintenance function and then create a new group for all the tiles in that category?  You should be able to go through the All Apps menu and pin what you want to the Start.
