B50-80 80ew r5 m330 overheating issue

Hi everyone,

Like the title suggests my dedicated graphics card is overheating. It's my mum's laptop which I use when I go on holidays, last year I used it without any problems, but this year I tried to play the same games and for like the first 30-60 seconds everything works perfectly fine (60fps) ans after that it just drops massively (5-10fps). So I decided to have a look and I says that the r5 m330 gets to 105C°. Tried everything to fix it,opened it up cleaned the whole thing(it was pretty clean as it was) and I even put it on a big fan and still the same happens. Tried updating all drivers and still no success. Hope anyone knows what's going on and even better I hope anyone has a solution for it!

Thanks in advance

Re: B50-80 80ew r5 m330 overheating issue

Hello Luukkirschstein

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.

(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)
1. Turn the unit off
2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter
3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds
4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter
5. Turn the unit on as normal

If that does not work, then attempt a factory reset on the unit, this would rule out software issue with the unit.

Note: Please back up all your data as running this reset will delete any data on your machine

1. Turn the machine off and press the recovery button which is located usually next to the power button. If you have a desktop machine you will need to power the machine back on and keep tapping the F2 key.
2. Use the arrow keys and press enter on system recovery. ( Desktop users can skip this)
3. Select “restore from the initial backup” and then “Next”.
4. Click “start” and accept the warning messages.
Length of time can vary depending on the speed of the machine.

If these steps do not work I would recommend, that you call your local Lenovo support line for a possible service. Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Re: B50-80 80ew r5 m330 overheating issue

Hi Krakken,
Thanks for the provided help and info. Unfortunatly none of the sollutions you suggested did work. So I will call customer support when I am back in my own country. Quick edit : It says the m330 uses 1.1V when in use and when not underload it stays cool and uses 0.88V. What is the stock core voltage, do you maybe know. A quick google search does not give me any information about this.
