Found a solution! We also had the same problem. We had 30 of the laptop with most if not all with the same problem.
The issue it to do with static from the motherboard to the touchpad. The solution is to use electrical tape.
All you have to do is take apart the laptop so you can get the top section where the trackpad is off. Once you have it off on the underside of the trackpad cover the 2 parts in electrical tape. See images below:

I'm having problems with my touchpad.
Sometimes my touchpad stops working. The odd thing is that when it happens I can use some parts of it.
It's always the center that's not working. Moving from left to right with my finger, the cursor is moving and stopping and then moving again. About 30% of the pad is not working.
The laptop is a Lenovo B5400 with windows 8.1 that is about 2 weeks old.
The drivers is the latest provided by Lenovo support page 18.104.22.168
These drivers are not for windows 8.1 according to the support page, but I'm unable to find anyone else.
Anyone that have some solutions or idéas?

Well.. Seems like I'm not the only one with that annoying problem.
Have anyone contacted Lenovo for support?
I've not had the time to deal with it yet.
The only solution I have at the moment is not to use the touchpad an buy a mouse. =/
