B570 Laptop (Lenovo)
Serial Number: WB03xxxxxxx
Machine Type Model: 1068AGU
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Atheros ar9285 AR5B95 (replacement from third party, sold as new)
Physical wifi switch is "on".
Adaptor is correctly identified in Device Manager and driver loads okay. Driver shows best driver when update attempted.
Adapter appears in Network Connections, but shows the big red X and "Not connected".
Wifi network icon appears on system notification area, again with a big red X.
Attempted to connect shows "No connections are available" and there is no list of available SSID's. I am sitting less than 6 feet from my Buffalo Air Station and there are multiple devices connected to the wifi on that router. I have restarted the router and checked configuration to make sure it's not totally locked down.
Fn-F5 appears to do nothing. Power Management is installed and configured.
The wifi light (lower left corner of the case, light farthest to the right) lights briefly during startup (POST?) then never lights up again.
I installed this card myself and have checked the hardware multiple times. Wires are connected, card is fully seated in socket.
Checked the knowledge base and found this:
Did not help.
Does anybody have any ideas about this?
Any help appreciated.

If there's a way to edit these posts, somebody please let me know.
Installed Lenovo Solution Center and scanned hardware. As I started that scan, I was prompted to turn on wifi via the switch on the front of the laptop. That switch was/has been in the "on" position. I cycled the switch position anyway and proceeded to can all hardware.
BIOS version is 44CN41WW. This seems to be the most recent BIOS version available.
Wireless info from the scan:
Display Name Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter

Manufacturer Atheros Communications Inc.

Any idea what's Going on here? Why is this radio not turning on?

Okay, stand down.
It has taken almost 3 days to realize that Lenovo Energy Management is a proprietary piece of software that I had to acquire and install apart from Windows power management.
I found and installed it. Now all is well.
