Booting for the first time in my Lenovo G500

Hi everyone!

I'm trying to boot for the first time in my Lenovo G500. It starts with the logo of lenovo and then it goes to a black screen and it is saying that is loading FreeDOS and is asking to enter a new date, new time and then it says C:/> and nothing happens.

I put in the cd with Windows 8 drivers but i can't make it boot from the cd/dvd.

Anyone can help?

Thanks!

Re: Booting for the first time in my Lenovo G500

Hi Stathesp,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I’m sorry to hear that your G500 Laptop is booting to Black screen, I suggest you to change the Boot priority of CD/DVD drive 1st and HDD (Hard Disc Drive) to 2nd, below are the steps to access BIOS:

  • Turn OFF the computer and then click on NOVO button which is located at the left side of the computer.
  • Then under Boot tab change the CD/DVD as 1st boot and HDD to 2nd device.
  • Now press “F10” Key to save the changes, the computer will automatically restart.
  • Then check inserting the Disc and check the issue.

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

Re: Booting for the first time in my Lenovo G500

hi, thanks for your response, i'm actually writing from my new lenovo g500 , the problem is solved, the laptop is working perfectly but i have a question about  the display, it's a bit dark and the colors are softer than my previous laptop knowing that they have the same graphic features(intel hd graphics) but different processors, intel pentium 2020m for lenovo G500 and intel core i3 for my previous fujitsu ah530. thanks.

Re: Booting for the first time in my Lenovo G500

Hi Yess88,

I’m glad to hear that the issue is resolved in the computer now; but the display resolution and other specifications of it depends on the integrated graphics installed in the computer, however please check if there any change in the graphic settings.

Do post back for further queries.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

You are seeing the BIOS setup pages wich is a good thing, it means that the computer hardware is working properly, the operating system may not be.  Go back into the BIOS setup, use the FN+f9 key to set defaults, then check and adjust the date and time, save and exit (restarts the notebook).

If when you restart it still puts you into the same spot rather than  a Windows start screen, it may mean that an OS is not installed onto the hard disk drive.  If this is the case, you need to contact Lenovo Support by phone, tell them the notebook model and serial numbers and see if it was built with a version of Windows installed, or was shipped without an OS.

If shipped without an OS, I would suggest returning it to the point of purhcase and exchanging it for one that has Windows preloaded to the hard disk.

Good luck.
