Brand new G50-80 Laptop (80E502XXUS) - replace HDD and downgrade OS

2015-12-31, 12:18 PM

I'm getting a G50-80 Laptop (80E502XXUS) with Windows 10 already installed on a 1TB HDD w/8GB SSD. This is what I want to do.....

1. Replace the factory drive with a new Samsung 850 EVO 256GB
2. Replace Windows 10 by installing fresh Windows 7 Ultimate x64

From my research, this sounds like a major pain but I'm sure someone has done this before. What do I need to do? Has this process already been documented?

I did this with a Lenovo G570 5 years ago and it was a LOT easier (and still runs like a top).

Thanks!

Re: Brand new G50-80 Laptop (80E502XXUS) - replace HDD and downgrade OS

Hi , I'm really trying to understand this but I can't.

Right now, I'm just trying to get back to basics.

I have a G50-80 with a 1 TB drive as stated above.

Windows 10 is preloaded (and unpacked) so that works.

I just want to swap it with a Samsung 850 EVO 256GB

How and what do I use to make a backup?

I have Samsung Data Migration, Paragon Partition Manager 15 Professional v10, EaseUS Partition Master 10.8

Do I use one of these to copy the partitions to the new drive or something else?

Thanks!

I have used AOMEI backupper Free to create a recovery CD and clone the whole drive to a SSD.

I used this and it is so easy. Cloned and rebooted several times to make sure it worked.

https://hddcaddy.eu/how-to-clone-factory-installed-windows-8-to-a-new-empty-ssd/

Pay particular attention to the use of Macrium Reflect Free software used to clone.

I would use this solution to replace a stock HDD with a SDD.

Thanks to all for your help and suggestions.

Mods, please take a look at this and tell us what you think. If I can figure this out, anyone can.

Now, if you want to replace Windows 10 with Windows 7, that's another matter altogether for another time.....
