G40-30 - Boot up problems, can't enter the BIOS Setup

2016-05-16, 5:55 AM

Hello Everyone!

I am looking for help with a specific problem. I have a Lenovo G40-30 (Model Name: 80FY) laptop which does not boot up the BIOS. Here has only one Power Button. When I Pressing the fn+f2 button on the laptop for BIOS, BIOS gives me a black screen with a still cursor in the top left hand corner.

When I buy Laptop, there has Operating system windows 8. Then I remove HDD and insert another pc then install windows 7 on this HDD.

Now I try change to Windows 8 / 10. When I boot from DVD/USB, boot is starting then come windows logo, then Keyboard and mouse not working.

I have Windows 7 running on the laptop, but USB, LAN, WIFI Not working.

why I have been wanting to enter the BIOS and format everything and get a fresh, clean install.

My question is how can I reset the BIOS? I am unable to reset the CMOS battery because it is soldered onto the motherboard, unless taking it apart and re-soldering will reset it?

I am looking for any ideas/solutions to my problem.

Many thanks!

HI hronac ,

Welcome to the Community Forums ,

To enter the BIOS for this model, turn off the laptop and use the Novo button ( next to the power port , Bottom and Left-side view item 7 page 67 ). This would offer the novo menu to choose BIOS set up. F9 to reset defaults and F10 to save and exit.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Hi richs12 ,

Greetings.

Try to remove the harddrive and use the novo button to turn on , else FN +F2 .

Would tapping F12 on restart offer other BIOS access (usually at the bottom) as some tried using an external DVD to boot that showed some options?

On an imaged Win8 /Win10 harddrive from a different pc , using the UEFI firmware setting would also allow access to the BIOS.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Hi richs12 ,

What would show onscreen without the harddrive ?

Win8 with UEFI would be recommended.

Update us how things go.

Thanks

Hi richs12 ,

Can you change boot mode options with the arrow keys or move thru the different tabs like information  , configuration , security , boot , and exit tabs?

What goes with Win 7 is legacy / EFI / bootmode , CSM enabled , secure boot disabled ,on exit tab OS optimized to other OS.

For Win8 and above , CSM disabled, bootmode UEFI , secure boot enabled, exit tab OS optimized to Win8/10.

Regards

Hi richs12 ,

PXE-E61: Media Test Failure is like the harddrive is not being read .

If removing the harddrive and all other USB and CD/dvd out , try to turn on using the Novo button.

This should give the novo menu to choose BIOS.

Would it show up?

Check on the main / info page with and without the harddrive as it should indicate if harddrive is recognized. On the exit tab is where you can change OS optimize to the Windows version.
