G400S RAM Upgrade - Help Needed

I want to upgrade my memory up to 12 GB (already have 4GB).
Can I install the Kingston KVR16LS11/8? (it is cheaper than KCP3L16SD8/8). What's the differences between those two?

Re: G400S RAM Upgrade - Help Needed

Hi richardsonwtr ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you have the machine number to verify further information on the variant of G400s.

You may check from the sticker or from the parts look up page

Based on the hardware manual specification (page 27):

DDR3L-1600 (support DDR3) SODIMM × 2  Max 16 GB

Click on the part numbers to check on " Show all systems that work with this memory "

KCP3L16SD8/8  Lenovo G400s listed but  KVR16LS11/8 do not .

Tested compatible RAM fru list on page 82-83 item 16

Update us soon as convenient so we can check further options for upgrade base on the machine number.

Regards

Re: G400S RAM Upgrade - Help Needed

I am a bit confused right now.

* In the parts look up page, it shows just one substitute for the memory (equivalent, with 4GB). Can I post here my serial number for verification?

* The FRU list does not have the KCP3L16SD8/8, but Kingston says is compatible.

* Why isn't KVR16LS11/8 supported ? (Both KVR16LS11/8 and KCP3L16SD8/8 are  DDR3L 1600MHz SODIMM Non-ECC 204-pin ) - See extra info of  KCP3L16SD8/8

*Based on the info retrieved from the parts look up page, should I install one ECC or Non-ECC memory?

Re: G400S RAM Upgrade - Help Needed

Hi richardsonwtr ,

Greetings.

Just post the machine number from the sticker or check it from here

Keep the serial number confidential.

Information on the parts lookup page is the parts that came with the package as indicated by machine numbers. Machine number on same model is different as it may have different devices ( ex. capacity and type of harddrive, RAM , optional devices etc) . This do not include possible upgrade.

The specific hardware manual would show compatible OEM recommended parts for possible upgrades known to work. Other manufacturers of ram may sell similar specifications but OEM would have whitelist that would always be a challenge on freelance upgrading. Manufacturers themselves would recommend on their sites what they know would work for OEM models by their own studies as OEM would suggest their own tested certified parts (item 16 page 83-84) to avoid incompatibilities and wrong purchase.

Part number SM322NW08IAF from Sharetronic is non ECC so it's not required to have Error Correcting Code.

Update us soon as convenient.

Regards

Re: G400S RAM Upgrade - Help Needed

Sorry for the delay in responding.

The prices aren't good, so I reconsidered my needs, and I chose buy another 4GB memory (Kingston KCP3L16SS8/4).

It took almost two weeks to arrive! Smiley Mad

But it's up and running right now. Very satisfied.  Smiley Very Happy

Thanks for all your help.

Regards.

Re: G400S RAM Upgrade - Help Needed

Hi richardsonwtr ,

Greetings.

Thanks for getting back to our post as this would also help others on their plan of upgrades for the same model. I believe that your current RAM is at its sweet spot both functionally and economically as SSD may be the next best upgrade that you can invest as it is usable on another pc.

Best luck to all your endeavors.

Regards
