G480 Battery failed to charge

2013-02-19, 16:02 PM

Hi there! I've got a big problem with my G480

- Forgot to bring my G480 AC adapter to work.

- Ended up using another Lenovo AC adapter, which is smaller than my G480 AC adapter

- G480 is showing signs of not charging up my battery (obviously. because I'm using another adapter)

- Gets back home to recharge my battery with my G480 AC adapter.

- Now battery won't charge. Even with my G480 adapter.

- G480 runs on battery eventhough I've plugged in my G480 AC adapter. (battery icon is showing the battery icon only, and it's not charging)

- Computer dies while running out of battery.

- Turns AC adapter off. Takes off the battery. Restarts G480 with AC adapter only.

- Oh look, the battery icon changes back to the 'no battery detected' icon.

- Shuts down G480. Reinsterts battery. Restarts G480.

- G480 works again.

- But sometimes, the battery can stop itself from charging. (and ends up running the G480 on battery, while NOT charging when the adapter is plugged in)

- Have I screwed my G480?

- What to do?

Make sure you are using the latest Lenovo Power Management driver and the latest Energy/Power Manager software

And then try this:
1). Remove ac adapter and remove the battrey
2). Hold power button for 10 seconds (repeat atleast 3 times)
3). Put back the battery and ac adapter and see if it's working properly

Welcome To Lenovo Community

We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing,

Please try disconnecting all cable and battery from the unit , Now press the power button for 30-40 sec then release , perform this action 4 -5 times , now connect AC adaptor  to check  by powering on and booting the system. If system is working fine you can shut down and connect the battery to check, In case issue remains same please contact local Lenovo support to have system verified

Do give this a try and let us know

Hope This Helps
