G50-30 CPU FAN problem

my G5030 Doesn't seems to be running a CPU Fan

Does this model even has one ?

sometimes my system is slow as dead cow even when viewing youtube in 480p

I always need to restart the system and then it works but I could never fell the FAN running

No Fan noise, and I don't see any Air from Left Side Vent.

I cannot even run multple applications as system becomes very slow.

Running Win7 (64 bit) with SP1 and not much applications installed.

Drivers are updated and so is the windows from windows update and Norton Antivirus.

Even the hardware monitor doesn't list any CPU FAN at all, tried Hardware monitor and speed fan ?

Should I be visiting a Lenovo Service center ?

Re: G50-30 CPU FAN problem

Hi mepk ,

Greetings.

This unit do have its own system fan as shown from its hardware manual (page42) .

Did it also passed the hardware diagnostics to check on other parts that may also affect the slow performance of your pc ?

Seeing that you run temperature checker tools, was it apperent for higher temperature on the CPU too.

Ventilation slot on the left should atleast move a strip of tissue paper next to it.

No need to open up to check the actual fan if spinning since the system may still hold warranty.

You may check it here and call in tech support for possible repair.

Re: G50-30 CPU FAN problem

thanks for pointing me to correct tools and details.

I was able to Run

and found what I suspected, FAN is not detected, its certainly a manufacturing defect and thats the

reason I was never able to properly run basic things on this laptop.

view the screenshot here

http://s25.postimg.org/kh5mm9wsf/no_fan.jpg

As the laptop is under warranty, I would now need to located the Service center in Delhi/Noida, India.

Only problem is I would not like to leave the laptop for more than a few hours as I have to have access to it 24x7

due to work conditions.

Any inputs on if this can be solved on site or at service center on same day.

Thanks again for the help.

Re: G50-30 CPU FAN problem

Hi mepk ,

Greetings,

Great that you were able to verify the fan issue.

Having an Onsite repair as a upgrade is usually the best option for both business and school computer.

They would be able to assign a tech to do repair in your location.

Call in support and see  if that would be an option for you.

Re: G50-30 CPU FAN problem

spidey101: I would thank you for your expert advice but unfortuantely things were not as smooth as it should have been or cool like you were expecting it to be.

I placed a call back request and got the call, but during call I was disconnected due to my phone issue.

Later I started Live chat with a tech, and later she called me, while being on phone I was trying to explain

that laptop is slow in performance, I cannot feel the fan running etc etc

but your tech support girl was not ready to take hardware failure case.

I posted the same screenshot of " Fan Not Detected" which she denied to be a hardware issue ????

Was asked to install lenovo energy management and use dust removal option, even with it running I couldn't

feel, hear a FAN inside my laptop.

Then I gave my PC on remote support using log-me-in-

She ran couple of more diagnotics tests using (aida64extreme560) and the FAN Graph was Blank

but she never admitted if there's a issue.

even with 100% CPU usage during test, a ZERO on FAN SPEED, I was told everything is fine.

She then asked me if I can take a pic of FAN Area from side or bottom, which I failed because there's a

mesh behind those vents which prevents a camera or EYE view FAN Fins.

Then she checked BIOS version and downloaded a BIOS update,

without even asking me whether I have backups or would I mind if my system goes down

my laptop was made to reboot to complete the BIOS update.

and this caused my OS  (win 7 64bit) to go into boot loop, it kept on crashing no matter what option I opted from BIOS, or startup repair to system restore, safe mode and what not.

I called up the number from where I got the call, and it was another agent, after explaining hell of the issue

he checked with previous support agent and asked me question which urged me to bang my head on this

laptop,

"Are you still connected with the previous agent on remote session on the same laptop ?"

WHAT

i was explaining him that my PC was rebooted by her and I don't have a backup and I am in boot failure now

and you are asking me if she still has access.

what kinda question was this ???? Don't we need a working windows to have it running which I no longer had.

anyway after 30 minutes of such talks, I was sugggested a Great Solution which I think I've never heard in

22 years of my life spent with computers.

I was told "I apologize but We cannot fix boot problems" you need to format and install windows 7, You should have taken backup, however if you want you can take the laptop to our service center and get the HDD taken out, then hire a professional data recovery service to get you your files and then come back and do a windows re-installation"

I was under impression that I've seen worst support cases in my previous years, but you guys have given me a new memory to keep it afresh always.

Anyway for your kind information, I signed off from office on a broken OS laptop and came back home and even though I was proved idiot to suspect a Dead FAN from not working, I was able to fix the boot issue myself.

if you want I can give free trainning sessions to your guys so that other customers don't go through such a horrible and terrifying experience.

And Lastly, FAN is still dead, But I would like to throw this laptop from a 22 floor building instead of asking for a hardware support from LENOVO.

Frankly speaking I don't have patience to explain this to anyone again.

I've informed my company authorities  to immediately STOP any corporate purchases with LENOVO and look for options.

Re: G50-30 CPU FAN problem

Hi mepk ,

Greetings.

I was also expecting it so plain and simple as we had isolated it .

Was wondering what happened to the fan issue.

How was running a strand is tissue on the vent do ? Will it move?

If you do have technical skills to open the chassis to visually check the fan , best give Lenovo India a call so that it would be reflected on your case.

Don't lose your ground on this.

Keep the same case number to do follow up.

Update us please .

Regards

Re: G50-30 CPU FAN problem

thanks for suggestion again

Tissue test fails, as it doesn't move

Doesn't move even when I run "Fan Dust Extraction"

However on a identical machine (co-worker's) Fan is visible, and very audible when dust removal is

selected.

I can certainly open the back panel and take a picture but will it VOID the Warranty ?

laptop is just 5 months old and under the warranty.

Re: G50-30 CPU FAN problem

Hi mepk ,

Everything is pretty much obvious as we have checked.

How was your follow up call?

Best that we stay with fan issue and use the same reference number .

Update us how it goes.

Re: G50-30 CPU FAN problem

after escalation a service engineer visited today and upon  inspecting found

this specific model (G50-30, Intel Quad core) doesn't has a CPU FAN. Smiley Surprised Smiley Surprised

It uses copper pipe in fan like housing and doesn't has a FAN.

That proves the reason why laptop has started giving problem as winter weather is getting over.

I never expected a 15.6 inch laptop without a FAN

its certainly a design flaw and could have performed better if the FAN actually existed.

Re: G50-30 CPU FAN problem

Hi mepk ,

Greetings.

So this explains why all diags show no fan.

Would you be able to share the machine number for reference as  G50-30 's have couple of variants and some model machines do not require any fan as the heatsink assembly would be well enough suppose to dissipate heat out with its design at certain environment temperature.

If in any case that you feel that you need to have additional ventilation , external cooling pads can be an alternate choice .
