G50-45 with Win 8.1 Onekey Recovery 8.1

I just came back from the loop of Autorepair/Diagnosing your PC loop of death..

So now I need to do a onekey recovery backup now that everything is working again.

When trying to use OKR my sys partition is too large for the recovery partion, so I tried to use the external which has plenty of room (3Tb), but I can't click start since it is greyed out. It is a USB 3 external. Does it have to be bootable or something?

My other problems is that in my efforts to make sure I had the latest OKR version, I inadvertantly replaced the one it came with (8.1) with (8.0)...

It used to be a yellowish theme, now it is blue themed. The file I installed was okrw818002105.exe .

And it still won't let me backup to the external.

Any idea on how I could get my original OKR 8.1 back?

Re: G50-45 with Win 8.1 Onekey Recovery 8.1

Hi LWJackn ,

Greetings.

Would the external 3TB usb3.0 be detected by the machine?

Any yellow marks on device manager ?

You may need to update the drivers for your external storage from its manufacturer and check if the external drive is initialized in GPT. They would also offer backup applications that you can use.

On creating a recovery media , you may do it just using a USB drive therfore not needing to compromise the contents of your 3TB external drive. You can follow this guideline

Original image including the preloaded applications are saved on the initial backup partition (hidden and should not be affected by current Windows issue) but doing this would delete all data and applications that did not came with the machine.

Doing a user backup at this point may also backup the corrupted files (although it was repaired but we are not sure if it would just be temporary and that other files are also ok). Another plan may be just create a USB recovery media , backup all your important document to the external drive.

Others would even OKR initial backup factory restore after the backup , create a recovery then clone the entire harddrive to another drive (1-2TB) just in case the harddrive deteriorate in the future. OKR version 8.0 would also be restored back else you can try using this.

Update what would work best for you.

Regards

Re: G50-45 with Win 8.1 Onekey Recovery 8.1

No.
No.

& No.

Smiley Tongue

Solved the OKR 8.1 issue myself. Turns out the Setup for 8.1 that was preinstalled on this Lenovo was still over on D drive and it is back the way it should be now.

Still can't go to the 3TB with OKR 8.1 though... Probably for the reasons you mentioned about GPT and all.

So I spent the day moving Data over to it which brought the Sys partition down to 101 Gigs. Still won't fit on the Recovery partition which is only 23 Gigs, so I'll use my USB 3.0 128Gig Flash Drive for the recovery BU for now.

Thanks again for your reply.

I'll post here if I have anymore issues. Smiley Happy

Just a side note, only thing that got trashed was the Boot Record, all the data was fine.

I had just ran the Windows Update earlier in the day before it crashed and locked up.

So once I was able to get to repair screens I rolled back to the Restore point just prior to the Windows Update.

Tried the Bootrec rebuild but it didn't see the Windows installation being it is GPT and not MBR, so I had to do the drive letter assignment through diskpart and all via Command prompt and then it was able to rebuild fine. Once that was done it came right up, though it took a while to rebuild it's icon base for menus and stuff.

This site is a godsend and where I got my directions and strategy from to do this:

https://www.winhelp.us/repair-your-computer-in-windows-8.html

It might be helpful for anyone else with the Autorepair/Diagnosing your PC loop...

So glad I didn't lose anything but some sleep and time. Smiley Very Happy

Cheers!

Re: G50-45 with Win 8.1 Onekey Recovery 8.1

Hi LWJackn ,

Greetings.

From your initial post mentioned :

So now I need to do a onekey recovery backup now that everything is working again. .. When trying to use OKR my sys partition is too large for the recovery partion  .... And it still won't let me backup to the external.Any idea on how I could get my original OKR 8.1 back?"

Since you have done your backup , creating a recovery media on a USB separately from your data is ideal. It would also help on repair options for for bcd repairs. Setup OKR on the D: Lenovo drive would be a launcher of the factory image on its hidden partition for a factory reset.

Hope you manage to isolate the cause of corruption on boot configuration data" file .

Good to know all is working well for you.

Regards
