G50-70 - Conexant Audio Driver Problem (Headphones no sound) - Lenovo G50-70 Windows 10 64-bit

I've been pulling my hair out with this problem.

I have sound from the speakers, but not from the headphones.

I've tried the headphones on my phone and they work, so it is the PC.

It's like the headphone jack doesn't work, but I have suspicions that it's about the drivers.

In the sound settings/playback devices, the speakers appear, but not the headphones.

Any ideas how I may solve this problem?

I had sound problems after upgrading my 420s from Win 7 to 10.  No sound at all.  I got it to work with the Windows generic driver but the sound was very soft.  I downloaded the Conexant SmartAudio driver from the Lenovo site, rebooted, and then the headphones do not work.  The sound works better, but not as well as the old driver did prior to upgrading. 

 

I am not done yet, but the MS folks have had Win 10 out for nearly a year and the list of problems and their lack of caring about customer problems with no support at all is not acceptable.

 

I'll figure this out and will post the solution but I am going skiing in a few hours - so it will have to wait another day!!

I had the same problem.  It started with  the windows 10 upgrade.  Window 10 sent out a driver upgrade with a 

10 update.  I went back to the old driver and installed it to get the headphones back.  Then to prevent 10 from

upgrading the driver again I went and right clicked on system and then on the bottem left advanced system settings.

then click on the hardware tab.  then Device installation setting and click on no you don't want the automatic driver

updates.

Update to my earlier post:  Upon rebooting a few times, the headphones came back with the driver downloaded from the Lenovo site.  BUT - the sound is about one third as high as prior to the Windows 10 update.  Obviously, the driver needs to be updated for Windows 10 to allow audible sound on this computer (420s) at a level that is acceptable.

The driver I updated to is 8.65.28.50.  I have plenty of volume.  To update I went into control panel and removed

the conexant audio program from the programs.  Then removed the driver in device manager.  Restarted and installed

the downloaded file.  Just updating the driver didn't work for me.
