G50-80 - Windows 10 activation failed

Hi guys,

I have a problem with the windows 10 activation;

3 days ago I purchased this laptop, turned it on and initialized it, windows was active;

yesterday I dot the latest windows updates, including that one that looks like a brand new SO installation with multiple reboots and when it finally ended (after more than 2 hours) my SO was not activated anymore.

When I open "settings" and click on "activate windows" I can see the error 0x8007007b; clicking the Activate button does nothing.

I found some guides googling around but before I start copy/pasting the product key they say I can retrieve using

powershell "(Get-WmiObject -query ‘select * from SoftwareLicensingService’).OA3xOriginalProductKey"

I'd like to know if there's a simplier. maybe more specific for this product, solution.

Some extra infos about my pc and license:

1: when I first booted it got windows 10 home already installed and was activated

2: I got a sticker under the laptop with the windows logo but there is no key

3: no key in the few paper manual in the package either

4: laptop is a g50 80 with i3-5005u

I've got an extra question.

using the lenovo companion I see that my warranty started the 01 september 2015 even if I just purchased it from a phisical store near where I live and the package was sealed.

The first day I got it afted around 4hours I installed Piriform's Defraggler and looked around in the SMART section and I noticed I had 8hours uptime, so I think it was turned on at some point, I think to update it to win 10 and sell it with win 10 already installed.

I talked to the seller and he said my warranty will last me 2 years just like law says, so I'm not worried, just curions about what could have happened, if my update hipotesis is right.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: G50-80 - Windows 10 activation failed

Hi AlfoG5080 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Best to call in technical support for your product to verify the original Windows version and that includes warranty covered on your laptop and have it updated manually by the tech guys if needed.

Italian  9:00 - 18:00 Monday - Friday
1-997-51926 (Costo della chiamata: 11,88 centesimi di € al minuto + IVA)

OEM product keys are embedded on the sytemboard chip starting the release of Windows 8 .

As the error code shows that a different version from the OEM was installed on the machine that triggers the error.

Similar softwares (i prefer method 2) may be able to extract it as claimed but still the simpliest fix here is calling tech support to verify the OS version and likewise update your warranty to your account . Have the receipt scanned for it to attach on your record files if needed.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Re: G50-80 - Windows 10 activation failed

Hey spidey thanks a lot, I didn't know the key was stored inside the chip, I tought microsoft itself had the fingerprint of my HW associated with a lenovo OEM key.
By the way, I got it working now, I used RWEverything portable app and read the key (it was the same I had using that script, but this time I was more sure since it was read from the chip itself) and then I opened the command prompt and run "slui 3" (no quotes), pasted the key and hit enter and it worked!

So for who has the same issue, do this:
1) Download RWEverythingPortable from MajorJeeks and run it
2) Click the "ACPI" button and then the "MSDN" button, on the bottom you'll see the key, copy it.
3) Press the WIN key and write "cmd" (without quotes), press enter
4) In cmd write "Slui 3" (whitout quotes), press enter
5) In the UI that pops up paste the key you copied above as it is and press enter
6) wait
7) profit!
