G50 stuck on "Lenovo" screen

On Saturday, Windows updated to the Creators Update. When it was finished, everything seemed to work fine that night.

On Sunday, when I went to turn it on, it displays the black screen with the "Lenovo" logo, but nothing happenned. I left it like that while I went to work. The next day, Windows was up and running like normal, but as soon as I tried to get on Chrome, it went back to the Lenovo screen and has been like that every since.

I have read read a lot of the forums here with similar issues, and have tried those, but nothing works. These include:

  • Removing battery, holding power button, plugging in AC adaptor, then pressing the NOVO button. It turns on, but remains on the Lenovo screen with no BIOS option.

  • Removing the DVD drive.

  • Removing, then reinstalling the hard drive.

From what I've read, all signs point toward the hard drive being shot. However, I run weekly diagnostics on the laptop, and before the update, all files, drives, etc were in execellent shape.

Any my advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: G50 stuck on "Lenovo" screen

Hi there, Jasonhyde                -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Try doing the below steps:

CTRL+ALT+DELETE to open task manager.

Once task manager was open, then use the Start a new task function to run "msconfig".

In "msconfig" chose to boot into safe mode with networking, and upon restart everything was back, albeit in safe mode and at awful resolutions.

While in safe mode, run "msconfig" once more and disabled all NON-windows services, then restart PC in normal NON-SAFE mode. Everything will be back to normal with no services running.

From there, you could open up settings, and then go to the Updates section and revert to an earlier build (the build prior to the Creators Update).

Update us how it goes.

Re: G50 stuck on "Lenovo" screen

CTL. ALT. DELETE does not work because the laptop is completely unresponsive on the "Lenovo" screen.

Re: G50 stuck on "Lenovo" screen

It would help reseating the hard drive & memory modules (remove and check the contacts and place it back in).

Update us how it goes.
