G500 Ethernet stopped working

2016-09-15, 22:38 PM

My Ethernet connection suddenly stopped working (I don't use Wi-Fi).

The modem is fine, it works on other machines.

The Windows 8.1 troubleshooter didn't help.

I wanted to uninstall the driver and reboot but all I see in the Device Manager is a wireless driver (Intel Centrino Wireless N 135). Isn't there supposed to be an Ethernet driver?

I went to the G500 Lenovo driver download site and download the Atheros LAN driver for WIndows 8.1. I installed it and that didn't change anything (I can't even see where it is).

Thanks for your help.

Hi there, JPH  -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Check the whole list under Device Manager and check if you have any device that has a Question mark or an Exclamation.

Or look for a Network controller icon

Also try booting into BIOS mode

Tapping F2 when you power on the system.

While inside the BIOS

Hit F9 to load Defaults and hit F10 to Save and Exit.

Check if you'll have a new device under Device Manager

Update us how it goes.

Regards,

Good morning,

I read your responses to previous posts related to my problem and already did what you suggest: there is no flagged device in my device manager (I don't have the "Other" category shown in your pic).

BIOS booting didn't add one device that I can see. But where would it be and under what name?

So I guess you are going to say it's a hardware problem :). But I bought this computer only 2 years ago and I really want to get to the bottom of this.

Can you please tell me what device is needed for Ethernet connection and in what device manager class is it supposed to be? All I see now is the wireless device in the Network Adapter class. If a device is missing I should be able to download it (from another machine of course).

Thanks
