G500 - Sound issue and Sleep mode disabled

2018-01-14, 23:19 PM

Hi guys,

         I have a Lenovo G500 Laptop .

I accidentally deleted the OS drive(Win 8) resulting in installation of an Unregistered version of Windows7 OS. Since the day I have installed it,I noted that the Sleep mode is greyed out. Then the Sound wasn't working even after repeated reboots..I found that when I put my Laptop for Hibernate and wake it up the Sound would come up.I knew it was a temporary solution however I continued working in the same way.Of late, whenever I try to wake my PC from Hibernation,it displays a blank black screen and only when I remove the battery that the PC boots to the Desktop screen lest with Sound not working. One could hear the Windows Welcome Sound when it boots to the Login screen but the Sound services do not work after the Desktop screen comes up.

Also, I do not have the Factory OS disc and it is Out of Warranty.

 Please suggest..

If you are using a copy of Windows 7 downloaded from the Internet (e.g Windows 7 ultimate) you may find all sorts of issues.

If your system came with Windows 8.1, I would recommend you just re-install Windows 8.1.    You can get the Windows 8.1 Installation Media for Installer for Windows 8.1 for free from Microsoft using Microsoft's Media Creation Tool.    Your Product ID for Windows 8.1 is stored in the BIOS, and should be automatically detected during installation unless a sticker was applied with the Product Key.

As far as the symptoms you are describing, it sounds like a driver issue, so you can try to update your drivers, but I would try to reinstall 8.1 if it were me.

Hi JD,

    Thanks for the reply.

I tried upgrading the drivers by downloading them from Lenovo Driver Download page but it didn't work. I hate Win8..I had upgraded my PC to Win10 during the free upgrade...however I had accidentally deleted the OS drive...Are there any other options other than Win8...Looking forward for your suggestions...

If you updated to Windows 10 already, then you can reinstall Windows 10 too.    You will need to download the Windows 10 Installation Media, and then when prompted for the Product Key during installation, select "I do not have a product Key", and Windows 10 will activate automatically once the installation is complete using the key embedded in the BIOS.

The document below is a pretty good guide on the process.
