G500 Wifi Encryption

2013-11-29, 10:55 AM

I recently bought the G500 from Best Buy. For some reason, I'm unable to connect to my wireless router using WPA2-PSK with AES encryption. I am however able to connect via WPA2-PSK with TPIK encryption. I would prefer to use AES on my wireless network, so does the device just not support AES or is there some configuration issue on my end?

Edit: I've also installed the latest wifi driver from http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS035531

Hi silverdragon89,

Welcome to the community.

What wifi adapter have you got in your laptop?

Vince.

I believe I have the Cybertan Broadcom BCM4313 1*1 BGN MOW by typing in my serial number into http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/partsLookup.page. According to Broadcom's website on this wifi adapter, it should be able to support it:

State-of-the-art security is provided by industry standard support for WPA, WPA2 (802.11i), and hardware accelerated AES encryption/decryption, coupled with TKIP, IEEE 802.1X support, and a WLAN Authentication and Privacy Infrastructure (WAPI) hardware engine.

On a side note, I bought this off Best Buy and they advertise it as having bluetooth. But in Windows 8.1, I don't see the toggle button for enabling bluetooth.

Edit: I believe the bluetooth device should be incoroprated into the wifi adapter. Perhaps these issues are related somehow?

I am having the same issues as OP, right now I am connected with WPA2-PSK [AES] , but whenever I change the mode to higher than 'Up to 54kps' I will connect but have no network or internet access.
