G500 w/ Broken Screen / Does NOT use external monitor

2016-07-13, 17:05 PM

I have a Lenovo G500 that is giving me headaches.  I am able to boot it up, and I see the screen come on, and I am able to enter bios (or at least I think it is in bios because what can be seen of the screen is "brighter" after I hit down and enter.

I am able to connect an external monitor to it, but when I use the "one touch" button (I think it is called the "novo" button) it boots up and displays on the laptop screen and not the external.

I need to be able to get into BIOS and see what is happening in BIOS on the external monitor.

Hi tivotyro ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Checking on the BIOS Insydeh20 ver 3.7 for the G500 , seems that there is no option for default BIOS to switch on external monitor as the it uses the video drivers only when already booted to Windows.

When you turn on using the Novo button , Novo menu would show up (2:16 on video)

Blind mapping it as you press down arrow once would highlight BIOS setup and enter.

Typically there would be option to Power on Display under configuration tab in BIOS (2:25) to project similar to this discussion for a G555.  On the G500 however , specific option is not available.

Pressing on F9 would load BIOS default and F10 to save and exit. You can use the video for further reference.

Update us what works best for you as a replacement LCD is suggested .

Regards

At this point - after performing the BIOS reset - now it won't even boot into windows.

Hi tivotyro ,

Enter the Novo menu again and blind map it if your version would have this option for switchable graphics then F10 to save and exit. Check also on boot tab as shown on video link if a cold start (full shutdown) would be the same.

As again LCD replacement would be the best option.

Still no joy.  Does anyone have any more suggestion.  Desparation is beginning to set in.
