G505s Touchpad and buttons not working.

I am only able to use my plugged in mouse, I have checked the device drivers, says all are up to date.  The keyboard on the machine is working it is only the touchpad that seems to be disabled, I have also changed the setting but to no avail.

Re: G505s Touchpad and buttons not working.

Hi there, Davids

-

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

The above symptom could be addressed by tweaking one of the following methods:

  1. Tweak your touchpad settings

Go to Control Panel and look for mouse and change touchpad settings from there.

  1. Effecting a change in the registry edit

Open regedit.exe as admin, and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Elantech\SmartPad

Find the key named:

DisableWhenType_Enable

Double click and change the value to 0, close out and restart. Your touchpad will then be active while typing.

Update us how it goes.

Re: G505s Touchpad and buttons not working.

Thanks for the suggestion, I followed these instructions exactly and sorry that it made no difference, still no reaction from the touchpad or buttons.

Re: G505s Touchpad and buttons not working.

Check the touchpad settings. Go to the Start menu or the Windows search charm and type mouse settings. Select Change mouse settings (there are other options that are very similar, so pick the one with that exact wording).

Once in the dialog box, click the tab that seems to be for your touchpad (the name varies from model to model). Make sure that everything is enabled. If there are setting buttons, make sure that everything is on.
