Question

When the keyboard on my G505s is in use, the touchpad is disabled. This prevents any gaming.

The Windows touchpad setting is set to No Delay, and the "Palm Check" in the Elan settings is disabled. The driver is the newest available on the Lenovo website. Any ideas to get the touchpad working so I can play some games?

The laptop is the G505s, A10 without the dual graphics, model 20255.

I tried to remove the Elan driver but the touchpad no longer becomes inactive while typing. It has lost both mulittouch and scrolling abilities.

Answer

The behavior of disabled touchpad when keyboard is in use simply because of avoiding unncessary touch on the touchpad when typing.

The above symptom could be addressed by tweaking one of the following methods:

1. Tweak your touchpad settings

Go to Control Panel and look for mouse and change touchpad settings from there.

2. Effecting a change in the registry edit

Open regedit.exe as admin, and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Elantech\SmartPad

Find the key named:

DisableWhenType_Enable

Double click and change the value to 0, close out and restart. Your touchpad will then be active while typing.

Note: Please be careful doing this method (2) and be sure what you are doing otherwise it may cause damages to Windows and not able to boot properly.
