G510 BIOS stuck, can't change settings

2016-12-17, 14:15 PM

Recentely the time on my OS gets reset to a wrong time everytime, and when I go to the BIOS, I see that it keeps resetting there.

Edit: Also, I can't change any other settings besides the time, as it gets stuck everytime I touch other settings?

Is the battery the cause? Or maybe a virus? Other thing?

Is it hard to replace the CMOS battery there?

Ty!

It does sound like the back up battery is failing.  You can use the support tab to look up your system, download the maintence manual and look thru the PDF for the back up battery (search it) and it should be easily replacable.

Good luck.

Hi Panty

Definitly sounds like the CMOS battery is dead or dying. HERE is the hardware maintenance manuel for you G510

Hope this help you and let us know how you get on

Thanks guys, before I do that, I noticed 1 more thing: When I disconnected everything from the laptop, I was able ot change the BIOS settings, is it still a failing CMOS battery symptom? (Maybe many connected devices on startup require more battery power?)

**Where on the manual is the CMOS replacement part? Couldn't find

Hi Panty,

Unfortunately the manuel doesnt show the battery itself, Normally on any laptop, it is a CR2032 but the best option would be to follow the manuel to take the machine apart and youo will see it on the main board.

Hope this help you and let us know how you get on

Welcome to the Lenovo Community Panty !

I've included a link below to CMOS batteries they sell on eBay for your model.  It will give you an idea of what to look for.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xlenovo+g510+cmos+battery.TRS0&_nkw=lenovo+g510+cmos+battery&_sacat=0

The picture found on this website will give you a location of the CMOS battery.  It is plugged in the lower left hand corner of the motherboard that is pictured....

With any replacement CMOS battery, always check to see that the wire color pattern on the battery's plug is the same as your original.
