The BIOS update link is active. G530-4446 models should enjoy the brightness issue is resolved with this release--and will also show up correctly in the "windows mobility center" in W7. No delay after POST--because it's for the correct notebook model.  We've been using this version for over a month with zero issues.

This is from the page with the same link Cleo posted  a few days ago.

A caveat is, again, it does not address the fn-F5 wireless switch, but we don't see that as an issue anyway.

The only real open is what the W7 support commitment for full drivers is for the G530-4446. I believe that's still up in the air.

FYI, Cleo's been the one who's gone to bat for us to push this along. Thank you, Cleo... but keep up the pressure for the rest of the W7 drivers, please!

Re: G530-4446-24U takes FOREVER to POST after BIOS update

2010-03-24, 6:18 AM

Ok, I have downloaded and flashed the new BIOS, which indicates via Belarc Advisor that it is

LENOVO 6GET19WW (for NON-HDMI) 01/28/2010, now that it is installed.

I was able to download the installer from the page on the link Cleo gave us earlier today. I rebooted the machine for extra safety, and after it was quiescent, ran the installer as administrator, oking the flasher at its stages according to the instructions.

All appears well. The machine now boots very quickly, with no dark-screen delay, and I retain control of brightness and sound volume (also muting) via function keys, as well as the alternate screen (projector) function key.

As expected, the function keys for sleep and hibernate, as well as for WiFi powerdown, don't operate. I'm not running the Lenovo software which may be also necessary for the Wifi key, so can't be sure about that one.

Sleep and Hibernate abilities themselves now appear to work very well - there is no dark-screen delay state in recovery, as I had been seeing with the earlier BIOS.

As far as G530 4446 operation, I'm pretty pleased now, personally speaking. I do expect that Lenovo will responsibly continue to follow the machine as far as any updates made necessary by Windows 7 updates.

It would certainly be appropriate that the Windows 7 drivers appear on the standard Lenovo support site when looking up the G530 4446U. As we know, no Windows 7 drivers are findable there at present.

Were there any issues?  Just one. As the flasher began, the notebook fan ran at a speed I have never heard - quite impressive. I presume it's a setting to assure ventilation with the unusual heat that flashing will generate. The machine auto-rebooted as promised, a little while after the flasher said it was primarily completed. However, after the reboot, this extreme fan speed continued unabated.

I tested the airstream out of the machine after a while, and it was pretty cool. Remembering the notice the flasher put up, suggesting a manual shutdown, then manual boot in case keyboard or mouse didn't operate, I tried this manual step, with a pause. Once the machine was started again, the fan operated and has continued to operate normally - i.e. off or not noticeable according to what it's doing. Thus, fine.

Cleo, thank you for following through, so that the proper results have come.

Respect to the manufacturing team for doing the right thing in releasing this BIOS, and appreciation that they take the ongoing responsibility as needed, for the machines we are quite pleased to have and use each day, from Lenovo.

Regards,

Clive

buli_mkd, I can't know for sure, but it sounds that you may not have 'run the installer as administrator', as the instructions require.

You can choose to select 'run as administrator' by right-mousing the installer.

You'll have to be logged in as an administrator, it's likely, but you also need to do this right-mouse procedure to actually use the privileges as required.

If you have any question about this procedure, I strongly suggest you have someone with adminstrative responsibility for the machine do the flash procedure.

Lenovo may have other suggestions for you, and you may well want to wait for them.

Regards,

Clive

Hi buli_mkd - looks like we have been crossing e-mails.

I don't know what further to suggest.

It's possible that the installer is for 32-bit Windows 7, and may have some problem running under 64-bit.  I am running 32-bit here, so that's all can be sure of.

I think you have to wait now for Lenovo tor reply with what they suggest for you to do

Best fortune, buli_mkd, and hope you get an answer shortly.  We are all really in different timezones in the world, so it may take a little while for them to reply appropriately.

Regards,

Clive
