Re: G530-4446-xxU takes FOREVER to POST after BIOS update

What about the little toolbox button? I can't remember what the OEM version of that software was called. I know the button brought up this little sidebar that had links to update, backup data, and the Lenovo Message Center. Everything else important works now. Thanks.

Re: G530-4446-24U takes FOREVER to POST after BIOS update

Hi guys... sorry for posting this so late but i had problems at college and this was not on my priority list. Although i have instaled the new bios and the brightness issue is fixed, still i have problems with my sleep and hibernation function. Every time when i try to put my laptop to sleep, it restarts when i try to wake him up. Same happens with hibernation mode tooo. Can anybody give me advice about this, cos all i want is to have a sleep mode on my laptop. Is it possible that power managment drivers are with bug? Pls help me....

UPDATE>

I have uninstaled power management drivers.... And restarted my laptop. I tried to put to sleep mode and hibernation mode and everything worked well. There was no restart issues. But today when I get up I tried to put it again in sleep mode in order just to see if everything is OK, and same problem again. It restarts. Also for Hibernation mode too... I don't get it really whats the conflict here but IM prepared to do everything to fix this problem.

Lenovo stuff now is your turn ;)

On a Win7 64 / 444623U is is safe to flash the BIOS with the newest (2010-04-13) update?

I would like to, but don't want to risk killing anymore features than are already dead.

Re: G530-4446-24U takes FOREVER to POST after BIOS update

DPerkins, I looked into this quickly - Lenovo has put this BIOS up as the recommended one for 4446-type G530s.

You are going to have to judge for yourself whether to install it. If you are technically proficient, the risk factors may be reasonable, as they say on the page for it that you could re-burn the older BIOS if it doesn't work out. That's here:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70994

Now, the other two possible issues we seem to be aware of in this thread are 64-bit, and some people complaining about hibernation problems.

- the installer they have posted may or may not be ready for 64-bit - it works fine with 32-bit. There is a workaround kindly provide by Weezal earlier in this thread, which again takes some technical experience to use:

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Value-line/G530-4446-24U-takes-FOREVER-to-POST-after-BIOS-update/m-p/217417#M18989

- on the hibernation complaints, it's hard to say. I've suspected these are really issues with software loaded on the machine, and have posted elsewhere some troubleshooting. I haven't seen any difficulties whatever on 32-bit - in fact, if anything the machine is cleaner.

The big issue as you'll know with 64-bit is drivers and program compatibility, and these are just the sorts of things to interfere with hibernation, quite separately from anything about a BIOS.

I guess I can just suggest you assay what's working and not for you, and read through especially the later pages of this thread with some patience - then come to a conclusion.

Be sure I am a customer just like yourself. Lenovo itself has reached this level of support. I think an open-minded company would have done more, but I am pleased that my G530 4446 at least works well for my purposes now. Screen brightness control is very important on a laptop, and the other essential keys work fine. I am actually happy some of the others don't - having a hibernate or sleep key right next to brightness wasn't a help. The wifi shutoff key is unnecessary with the excellent Windows 7 wifi support. And so.

Hope you work it out easily, DPerkins.

Regards

Excellent, thank you very much for the quick and thorough response.

I might go ahead and try the update. I just hated to potentially jump into a bunch of problems without at least asking for a second opinion. And like you said, I can always revert back to the old BIOS if this one is too buggy for me.

Thanks again.
